Many in the region practice ancestor veneration and say it is important to follow traditional funeral practices.

I have a small altar for my grand parents (whom I have never known) and my mom (she passed away 7 years ago).

I don't actually believe in the spirits and all of that. It's kind of just for aesthetics now and it's nice for my daughter to see my mom's picture. I suppose maybe it's just a bit comforting to me.

But I don't really believe their spirits come back and eat the fruit I put up there.
