The question I always have to ask is why? Surely these people know that unnaturally large lips look terrible, there are plenty of examples, yet they do it anyways.

I read something once by a young woman that cleared it up for me a little bit.

She noticed some lines and issues around her lips/cheeks/eyes and went to a botox clinic to get a consultation to remove them.

She got a very small amount of botox injected, like the bare minimum, "first one's free" sort of thing.

She asked the doctor after if this would make her look 5 years younger, to which he said:

"No, this will make you look like the other women your age, who also had this done. This is the default expectation now past your teens".

We can argue about the ethics all day, and I agree it's a sickening state to be in. But that comment and response really drove home how women/men essentially see elective and potentially destructive surgery like this as "required", just to look like the other people their age do now.

So basically, body dysmorphia driven mainly by weaponized social media algorithms + an accompanying structure of businesses set up to physically exploit said body dysmorphia.

This is a whole thing, varying genres of content on Tiktok.

Get your teeth filed down to pokey nublets, get fancy dentures, at age 22, don't worry about now constantly needing fairly high intensity dental maintenance for the rest of your life, in a country where Dental coverage is part of the 'premium plan.'

Get a brazillian butt lift, aka, basically silicone implants for your ass, don't worry that they rupture and leak and stink and can cause toxic reactions.

Get lip filler, get botox, all the time, don't mind that they're literally neurotoxins.

Just go on ozempic, don't worry that you now have a life long dependency on this drug, hope you can always afford it, forever.

The wildest part is that unlike in South Korean, where cosmetic surgery as a common thing has been normalized for a good deal of time, and is at least fairly well regulated... the people who are actually doing these procedures in the US are very often just wildly unqualified, turn out to be complete frauds, doing medical malpractice or unlicensed practice.

I think humanity (or at least western society) is currently in a self hatred phase.

We are nitpicking completely normal things about being human and desparetly trying to get rid of them even when we like the outcomes of the flaws.
Can't be emotional, can't be old, can't be ugly, can't be hyper but can't be still. Just shared judgement on everything and everyone and shame to get rid of it forever.

Thats a really fucked up story.

My second question is who? As in what medical professional engaged in such malpractice as to have engaged in their dysmorphia and assisted someone to get to this point.

People want to be famous so bad. Not everyone can rely on their personality
