For the #KungFuSat watch party on Mastodon, it's martial arts comedy Disciples of the 36th Chamber (a.k.a. Disciples of the Master Killer or Master Killer III), a loose sequel to The 36th Chamber and Return to the 36th Chamber, written, choreographed & directed by Lau Kar-leung, and starring Gordon Liu, Hsiao Ho and Lau Kar-leung.

Join us as we watch the movie (each person plays from their own source, e.g. Youtube) and comment live on Mastodon, with the hashtag #KungFuSat.

Synopsis

Fong Sai Yuk's uninhibited arrogance toward a Manchu lord forces him to seek refuge in a Shaolin temple. Although well trained in the martial arts, he is no match for Master San Te, the creator of the 36th Chamber of Shaolin. Exhausted by his frequent defeats, Fong leaves and crosses paths with a governor, who rewards him with a yellow robe granting immunity from any Manchu. But what are the governor's true intentions? Will Fong feed his foolish ego and betray the Shaolin Temple?

Sorry, I only just saw your reply, so the event is over today. 🙁 But we're here every week! 😁

#KungFuSat is an example of a "bring your own media" watch party. But today the movie was on Youtube worldwide (AFAIK), from the licensed Shaw Brothers Cinema channel. So everyone could watch from the same link.

In one window or device, have the Youtube video.

In another window or device, have Mastodon open and go to the #KungFuSat hashtag.

Then at the appointed time, the host posts on Mastodon "Press Play now!", everyone presses Play and begins watching & commenting.

Here's an example of me doing it all on my laptop with two browser windows side-by-side (there are other ways):

Next week, the film Code of Silence is not on a worldwide-licensed Youtube channel. In that case, the host (next week @MatthewTitus88) will post a streaming link from another site a few hours before the watch party.

You can use that link or find the movie another way. E.g. DVD/Blu-Ray, paid site (Netflix, Prime etc).

Huh, weird, because it said event starts at midnight GMT+1, and that's my timezone.

Wait, no it doesn't. I must have mixed it up with some other event! My bad.

Just dealing with the time change a xouple months ago (most watch party hosts in places that do Daylight Savings, I am not) did my head in. 😂
