Black fur would still show, depends on the fabric really. I just power thru it, though sometimes I wish I had like devon rexes or something like that

How does one convince a cat to stay still during this procedure?

Depends on the cat. Never tried that but from my experience having blood drawn at the vet, either food, rest, or being in an unfamiliar place chills them out.
