Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Here's the problem with the constant stream of depressing news: you start averting your eyes to stay sane. My first reaction was: "When the fuck did we start bombing Ecuador?!"

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 2 points 8 hours ago

Naw, it feeds my hate. Bring it on.

[–] teyrnon@sh.itjust.works 4 points 15 hours ago (2 children)

You haven't seen anything yet. The world is going to burn. Sadly. I tried to stop it.

[–] aquovie@lemmy.cafe 8 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

I know. The world is going to change. A lot. Like "post-WW2" a lot. The show isn't over but it'll never look the same.

China will be the global superpower and they're all about that face/reputation. Taiwan is an absolute goner and corporations will be very careful about public statements. The US is gonna look like Putin's Russia: strong men promising a return to the glory days but that's a mathematical impossibility.

Europe will probably look normal? Laid back and still enjoying their retirement from colonialism and starting world wars.

[–] teyrnon@sh.itjust.works 10 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Europe is following the us sadly. Technofeudalism. With tools past tyrants could not dream of.

But, at some point a true leader will emerge in the West and lay waste to the oligarchy, as sure that as sprimg coming.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 5 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

yeah some of the scariest things to me is I feel europe, canada, austrailia, etc are like just a few steps behind the us and sometimes they are holding the line but the right is pushing like crazy.

[–] teyrnon@sh.itjust.works 2 points 14 hours ago

Europe, and especially the uk, is ahead of the US in selling out the population to tech companies I am afraid. You see, the problem is the population is dumb as shit. The opposition to Tech is disunited by Design. Until we organize we are fucked and capital letters.

[–] aquovie@lemmy.cafe 1 points 14 hours ago

"The right" here being a reactionary movement to change. Tolerance led to immigration, immigration led to poor brown refugees. The US GOP destroyed the global order in a hurry and every country is circling the wagons right now.

European immigration has always been its own thing, compared to the US. It'll get tightened down as part of the fortifying new borders. After that, "the right" will be all about a new Euro identity, distinctly separate from the US. And suddenly nationalism looks cool again to everyone because the US is run by dicks.

I'm not as pessimistic, I still think we have a 50-50 chance, but it is going to take an entirely new approach by the Democrats, and those odds aren't nearly as good.

[–] teyrnon@sh.itjust.works 1 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

You say that, I think you know as I know that the Democrats will not take that new approach that is needed. They won't tland trying to get them to do so will only lead to frustration and vitriol, earning nothing but emnity.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 2 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

You could be entirely correct. I think we'll find out after the Midterms.

[–] teyrnon@sh.itjust.works 1 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

We will find out in 2028 when they nominate Gavin Newsom the aristocratic bitch. The midterms will not show us.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 1 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago) (1 children)

Literally my last choice. We have to destroy him in the primaries.

The good news is that the ones who tend to be the front runners going in, flame out fairly quick. Nobody starts out in front and stays there.

[–] teyrnon@sh.itjust.works 1 points 6 hours ago

Jon stewart, or [redacted] could win, especially the union boss economic populist.
