The Hormel Strike in 1984 or whatever it was, where they basically broke the unions in meatpacking, and apparently the corrupt parent union refused to support the strikers, then dissolved their membership sending their union into receivership and tanking their over year long strike, has turned meatpacking into a middle class job to wage slavery. These are not fun jobs, not safe jobs, they are treated like shit, now they get paid badly too.
Most all the beef is packaged by three companies, same with pork and chicken, this strike is the biggest of them, JBL, a brazillian firm, actually under investigation or charges for corruption in bribing brazilian officials to expand their US expansion.
