Ask Lemmy
A Fediverse community for open-ended, thought provoking questions
Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, toxicity and dog-whistling are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them
2) All posts must end with a '?'
This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either !asklemmyafterdark@lemmy.world or !asklemmynsfw@lemmynsfw.com.
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email info@lemmy.world. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
6) No US Politics.
Please don't post about current US Politics. If you need to do this, try !politicaldiscussion@lemmy.world or !askusa@discuss.online
Reminder: The terms of service apply here too.

I didn't presume you were hostile, just erratic. I seriously considered you were under some influence. I see now you just worded your reply poorly.
When someone says "I couldn't care less", and the immediate reply is proof or suggestion that they cared to some degree, this is usually taken as a challenge or denial to the fact that they couldn't care less. Especially when it's something easy to Not Do, such as commenting. This is because the phrase "I couldn't care less" is more often than not used as an idiom, not in a literal sense. And in this particular occasion, you just so happened to point at how they could, in fact, care less: by not even commenting.
I'll illustrate with a different example: A:"I couldn't care less what my ex does with their life" B: "Yet you cared enough to check their social media yesterday" ...so as you can see, B's reply directly suggests A actually does care to some degree.
Therefore, without any context to show appreciation for the reply or without any visual or voice cues (this is text after all) to show the tone of your reply, it's easy to presume you are trolling or not making any sense. The fact that you are coming up with this reply to someone who simply answered your question just adds another layer of confusion. Imagine asking someone to jump only to immediately say they shouldn't be jumping. Just confusing.
And that's also what the first commenter probably thought too, only they gracefully replied "non sequitur" as opposed to "dude what?" or "wtf?" which carry a similar sentiment and are just as applicable in this situation.
What?
So you were trolling all along. Well played
No, I'm playing an authentic, autobiographical character for educational purposes. I jist read all that and forgot what I was doing.
