Ye Power Trippin' Bastards

1805 readers
385 users here now

This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.

Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.

Posting Guidelines

All posts should follow this basic structure:

  1. Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
  2. What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
  3. Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
  4. Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
  5. Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.

Rules

Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.

Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.

YPTB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.

I made a number of comments in the post. @Serinus@lemmy.world is now policing how many you are allowed to have.

Here is the Announcement thread in general, in case you are unaware.

Serinus also claims 'Misinformation' for these comments

Ding ding ding. Hexbear and other instances get consideration and talked about behind the scenes. Anarchist.nexus was defederated by MrKaplan privately without any consideration at all from other admins. Kaplan even went out of their way to contact admins of other instances to attempt to get them to defederate from anarchist.nexus as well. When pressed about the popularity of anarchist.nexus, Kaplan then said "I don't know how you define relatively large, on fedidb they're listed as having 71 monthly active users" which led to someone else saying "That's top 10 for Piefed servers, according to fedidb. It would be top 40 for lemmy. We aren't swimming in the pacific here on the Fediverse. This is a small pond to begin with." A small pond that MrKaplan desperately wants to be the only big fish in. # Lemmy.world is using their position to bully smaller communities.

This is not, in fact, misinformation. I listed the screenshots in another comment directly proving this as correct. Here is that screenshot.

Correct. Also, this is quite important, but MrKaplan didn't talk to anyone else about this either. There was an instant and knee jerk response by the admins for this but they took literal weeks to do absolutely nothing about Jordan while saying they were looking into it for weeks. They, quite clearly, have made priorities.

Also not misinformation. Here is the screenshot from Kaplan admitting they never messaged anyone.

Anything to say, Serinus?

Edit: Of course he doesn't. He just banned me for 'sealioning and harassment' for this YPTB post.

The way federation is protected from this shit happening is by people spreading out. Don't join a popular instance. You can still interact with them without being a member of their instance. If one instance gets power, like Lemmy.world, you just end up in another situation like Reddit, where they can control the platform. You should definitely leave, if you aren't already planning to. Find a small instance that does what you want.

Tbh it is a quick a painless process to jump from .world to another instance. I only done this the other day from .world and boy howdy the amount of content that I can see. The fediverse feels new again.

I did exactly that when lemmy.world leaked my user registration e-mail address to Israel (I! Kid! You! Not!) as I was loudly anti-Genocide and critical of Zionism and I started receiving invitations to an online "learn about Israel" event in it.

It was a very easy transition.

this deserves its own post wtf

There's not really much I can prove, especially if I don't want to reveal much about my identity.

Holy shit, got any more info you can add?

Well, according to what was written in the e-mail it was from a Tel-Aviv based organisation. Also it was in my native language, which isn't English.

That said, they only sent 2 or 3 e-mails and then stopped.

As far as I understand only Lemmy administrators of a user's instance have access to user registration e-mail address, not moderators.

All of that also kinda dovetails with the pro-Zionist tone of all the main forums in that instance (especially back then, when it used to be incredibly common to have your posts moderated away as "anti-semitic" in those forums for criticizing Israel) and, as shown here, at least one of their Administrators being an overt Zionist.

Further, it makes a lot of sense for Lemmy.world to be a target for infiltration for state actors since it's the biggest instance of a left-of-center social media system and hosts several of its biggest forums, so frankly none of that shit was all that surprising.

While saying everyone other istance against them is paid off by governments. Seeing as they project constantly...

This is very disturbing.

Yeah, I highly recommend starting your switch to another instance immediately. There is a discussion happening behind the scenes for a number of other major instances to defederate from lemmy.world if LW does indeed go through with the defederation from dbzer0 because, at that point, Kaplan will have proven a few things.

  1. That Kaplan/LW admins value individual users like themselves over the entirety of an instances users

  2. That Kaplan/LW admins are not willing to engage in the same type of reporting behavior that they ask others to do

  3. That Kaplan/LW admins will be taking nuclear options in order to bully smaller instances into bowing to what they want you to do

  4. That Kaplan/LW admins will be policing what you think as they have literally zero evidence that there is any support for Luminous' behavior and, in fact, has been pushback. It's so ridiculous that Jordan Lund said this in their moderator chat for Lemmy.world. A chat that I just sit in and quietly drink my tea watching them lie boldfaced.
