I live in a pretty international place, and when i was still on bumble, this kinda tracks. Every most chinese person i talked to, mainly talked business. The secone tging they askes was pretty much always what your job is and if it's a good job. Sometimea the racism as well

Oof, you really aughta give that a spell check once over my friend. It's on the edge of unintelligible.

aughta

Ought to.

I understood what they meant in any case.

Yep, I definitely didn't do that on purpose. You're right.

I actually had a hard time reading their comment. Maybe it's because I was just waking up, but it's generally a good idea to at least read what you've typed once before hitting submit.

Edit: also you're wrong. https://www.oed.com/dictionary/oughta_v?tl=true This word has been in use with this spelling since 1840. Language is fluid, Words are defined be how they are used, not the other way around.

I fully support oughta, that's clearly a deliberate choice and not a mistake.

Be a pedant about your own spelling first.

[–] thedirtyknapkin@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago

I wasn't trying to be pedantic I legitimately had a hard time reading that.

I always find it odd how people take this kinda thing as an insult. "I can't read what you wrote because it has too many errors" is, like, one of the first things you encounter when learning to write. It's just a simple statement of fact. Cool it.

[–] thedirtyknapkin@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Yeah I don't get it. I didn't call them stupid. It's not that they didn't know how to spell anything, they clearly just mistyped a decent number of letters. It just needed a quick proofread.

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Hypocrisy is the second thing you encounter.

[–] leg@leminal.space 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Okay? Everyone should proofread their stuff. Why does it matter If the person who says so makes a typo? They should proofread too. Proofread your stuff, or accept that people might not understand what you're trying to say when you don't.

In the wise words of Chris Hannah: I'll call you on your shit, please call me on mine.
