For clarity sake, the article seems to be using the term lift to refer to an elevator. The article mentions it was to be used to change floors. They often use UK English in India since it was colonized at one point.
This obviously doesn't affect your experience, just mentioning for your knowledge. The guy was apparently in a stretcher and they got on the elevator to go to a different floor.
Yeah I did get that from the article, I was more building on the comment I replied to.
But I do appreciate it, those little dialect differences can trip people up, like I've talked to a surprising amount of British/Australian/etc. people seem to think that when Americans talk about peanut butter and jelly, that we're talking about putting a gelatine dessert (like Jell-O) on our sandwiches, because that's what they call "jelly" (for anyone just now learning that's not what we mean, what we call "jelly" is sort of like a pulp-less jam)
