If there are no cameras or witnesses, there will be a flat if I got something sharp enough on me.
A nail when positioned correctly will cause a flat tire to slowly deflate once it's driven over. Makes it less likely to get caught because the damage won't be discovered at the scene
The problem is the tire is still repairable. A small hole in the side wall cannot be repaired.

Nah, tires don't really go boom from a simple puncture anymore.
No, they just get a hole. It's not like a balloon. Firstly the rubber is very thick and secondly it's got fiber reinforcement all through it.
Even a truck like that does not have enough PSI in the tire if filled right to explode catastrophically. So for a commuter car or truck like that, you can take a small knife and just make a hole in the sidewall that'll leak slowly and cannot be repaired. To explode it would take being over pressured a large amount.
Now I'll tell you what WILL explode catastrophically if you try this shit. Commercial truck tires, they are at such high PSI and often loads along with temperatures they do explode.
