Cat Owner essentials checklist:

  • Litterbox
  • litter
  • food
  • water bowl
  • carrier
  • hydrogen peroxide

Hydroperoxide actually worsens the healing process of cuts. Use plain water & soap, and some rubbing alcohol of you feel you need it.

you have to seek antibiotics for cat scratch/bite fever.

[–] Neptr@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 7 hours ago

Not saying that isn't true, but I have never needed to do that.

Hopefully it's better than the Mercurochrome that we grew up with

(got a scratch/wound) Parent: "Go get the Iodine", Me: NOOOOOOOOOOO

Ha I’ve never actually looked into it, thanks. Never used H2O2 growing up but my partner did from my father in law.

Send quickly cause we needed to leave 😳

My partner’s father always used hydrogen peroxide to treat fresh cuts, so when I met my partner we always used it too. Never did that before meeting them.

My personal experience tells otherwise 🤷

[–] mirshafie@europe.pub 1 points 20 hours ago (3 children)

Yeah nah if I'm ever bit by a cat (so that it draws blood, not just friendly nibbles) it's straight to the hospital. Not fucking around with that shit.

[–] JcbAzPx@lemmy.world 6 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

If it's your own cat and you do regular vet visits, it's fine as long as you clean the cuts properly.

[–] mirshafie@europe.pub 1 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Not sure what use vet visits are here? Why would I risk anything if my hand has been bit deep enough to draw blood, even if it's my own cat?

[–] JcbAzPx@lemmy.world 4 points 14 hours ago

Main threat is rabies, which your pet should not have. Unless you need stitches, a good rinse with something sterile and a bandage are all you need. That's all a hospital is going to give you. Maybe some antibiotics if it didn't get cleaned quickly enough.

[–] SethTaylor@lemmy.world 3 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

I got scratched by a feral. Had to get a tetanus shot and five rabies shots

[–] mirshafie@europe.pub 2 points 17 hours ago

Better safe than sorry.

[–] bedwyr@piefed.ca 8 points 21 hours ago

I have never been scratched by a cat where blood was drawn. I can't remember even less than that.

Other than this trailer park, I went in, lady says don't worry about the dog, watch the cat. I was like yeah ha ha. Cat fucking ninja jumped me from on high somewhere, was trying to scratch me, just got my clothes.
