One day I was in the kitchen and my cat jumped on the heating radiator because she wanted to get pet. When I finished petting her, she turned around on the radiator and her toe got stuck in the grill on top of it. She immediately started screaming and I tried to free her. She was in so much panic she bit and scratched me. My other cat was upstairs but he came down and jumped in my back to defend her because he heard her scream as if she was being murdered.

I managed to shake him of my back and to pull her toe free. I was worried she was injured, but luckily she had no wound and walked fine afterwards. There was blood on her, but it was all mine from when she bit me.

That was the only time she bit or scratched me and she is 14 years old now. The other cat is now 16 years old and I do occasionally get scratched by him. Most of the times it's because he's a bit clumsy. In time when I was trying to sleep, he decided the best way to cross the bed was by walking over my face. He slipped and scratched my nose. Last week he scratched my neck when he tried to get on my shoulder but misjudged the jump.

Cat Owner essentials checklist:

  • Litterbox
  • litter
  • food
  • water bowl
  • carrier
  • hydrogen peroxide

I have never been scratched by a cat where blood was drawn. I can't remember even less than that.

Other than this trailer park, I went in, lady says don't worry about the dog, watch the cat. I was like yeah ha ha. Cat fucking ninja jumped me from on high somewhere, was trying to scratch me, just got my clothes.

Hydroperoxide actually worsens the healing process of cuts. Use plain water & soap, and some rubbing alcohol of you feel you need it.

Hopefully it's better than the Mercurochrome that we grew up with

Yeah nah if I'm ever bit by a cat (so that it draws blood, not just friendly nibbles) it's straight to the hospital. Not fucking around with that shit.

Ha I’ve never actually looked into it, thanks. Never used H2O2 growing up but my partner did from my father in law.

Cat bites are no joke, I was recently bitten by one and my arm hurt for almost two weeks. Not sure if putting on a tourniquet was the best idea, but tbf I did think I was gonna bleed to death without it, so that seemed more important than disinfection. Fortunately took only ~15min to have it seen by a doctor and get prescribed anti-biotics.

Years ago, a friend of mine adopted the cat that was mistreated by its previous owners and was still very defensive around strangers. He invited a couple of friends over, and one of them insisted on petting the cat despite clear signs that it wanted to be left alone and got bitten as a result. She didn't think it was a big deal and decided to let it heal on its own, until it became clear that it wasn't going to so she went to see a doctor a couple days later. That doctor detected early signs of necrosis and told her that, if she had waited a few more days, she would have probably lost her arm to gangrene.

So yeah, cat bites are no joke at all

I've been scratched by cats but never bitten. And I've been around a lot of cats. How'd that happen in your case?

[–] MML@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 hours ago

You probably had cat scratch fever

I have only been mean bitten (excluding play bites,) by Chihuahuas. 4x. All in the same year. They were all like bonafied mexican patronized dogs too, (I don't like to use the word own,) but I still love chihuahuas.

I do wonder if in Mexico, if you knock on some rich dickheads door trying to sell him on Jesus or some shit, if he releases the chihuahuas on you rather than the hounds. 'Run essay!'

Also the police should use them, but like, an entire pack of the little bastards.

When he's barking at an empty corner of the room at 3AM, it's creepy AF.

[–] ColeSloth@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Like a cat would claim you're it's owner.

[–] bedwyr@piefed.ca 3 points 2 hours ago

Well no, the cat's describe us as their bitches.

[–] ExtremeDullard@piefed.social 30 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

The infographic is wrong: the cat has no owners: it owns the humans (and attacks them).

[–] popekingjoe@lemmy.world 16 points 6 hours ago

"I own and attack the creature that thinks it owns me."

[–] ekZepp@lemmy.world 13 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

*i attack if my owner is threatened and sometimes also when isn't
