I think at the moment it is just the best choice (if you don't need specific windows programmes). Every other notebook with the same price or even more expensive, has a lower quality materials, battery time, screen and audio quality. Also they will become obsolete sooner and become quickly slow. And if in a bunch of year you whant to change it, you can't sell it because it won't maintain its value over time. Macbook has a higher longevity (both software and hardware /battery), a superior optimization of the OS and better construction quality that can face the relatively high initial cost. I think even for basic programme usage and basic browsing it's the best choice: you don't need all the power, but you can keep it for a decade and it will work nice even then.
