My only issue with the yakuza games is I don’t like beat-em ups all that much. Which is a shame because the story telling and atmosphere are so freaking good. I usually can put a solid 10 hours in before my attention drifts somewhere else.

One of the latest games in the series is apparently a turn-based RPG, might be worth checking out if that's more up your alley.

Like a dragon does not take itself seriously at_all. Turn based worked just as well.
