Anarchism is a social movement that seeks liberation from oppressive systems of control including but not limited to the state, capitalism, racism, sexism, speciesism, and religion. Anarchists advocate a self-managed, classless, stateless society without borders, bosses, or rulers where everyone takes collective responsibility for the health and prosperity of themselves and the environment.

On this day in 1911, the Japanese government executed twelve anarchists, including radical journalists Kanno Sugako and Kōtoku Shūsui (shown), as part of a widespread crackdown on left-wing activism. Among those executed were Uchiyama Gudō, a Buddhist priest and socialist who spoke out against the Meiji government for its imperialism and advocated for conscripted soldiers to desert en masse.

The pretext for this crackdown was the "High Treason Incident", a plot to assassinate the Emperor of Japan. The incident began when police searched the room of Miyashita Takichi, a young lumbermill employee, and found materials which could be used to construct bombs, concluding that there was a broader conspiracy to harm the imperial family.

On the basis of this plot, the Japanese government rounded up leftist activists from all over the country. 24 of the 26 defendants actually brought to trial were sentenced to death, despite the evidence against nearly all of them being circumstantial.

Among those executed anarcha-feminist journalist Kanno Sugako (some sources say she was executed on January 25th). At the age of 29, Kanno became the first woman with the status of political prisoner to be executed in the history of modern Japan.

Prior to his execution, Kōtoku Shūsui etched this message on the wall of his cell: "How has it come about that I have committed this grave crime? Today my trial is hidden from outside observers and I have even less liberty than previously to speak about these events. Perhaps in 100 years someone will speak out about them on my behalf."

Got a follow req from "a leftist" on Mastodon. Took a peek at their profile and a recent post was all about how JT from Second Thought is all wrong and into AuThoRitaRiaN1zm plus a huge TANKIE.

You can guess what my tankie ass did with that follow req.

I truly don't understand why these liberal dudes want to follow me on there in the first place over some hot takes that I occasionally have. I literally have it stated on my profile that I am not a liberal, that it is not a liberal friendly space.

I've had the experience of a Ukraine flag lib dming me paragraphs on discord, telling me how nice it is to find someone sane in this server, etc, only to start sending me monkey-face Putin memes and shit once they felt sure that I'm the right kind of racist.

I am not the most ideologically coherent guy (have read mostly stem stuff and not much theory) but sticking to materialism in political or historical convos means eventually libs get ENRAGED at me when I don't just nod along to their insistence on boiling the world down to the good people who happen to be wealthy and look like them and the bad people who just have bad brains and force us good people to punish them.

Liberalism really is a mental disorder.

It makes me think of protestant self-punishment, pleasure denial stuff honestly. To avoid just posting the disco Elysium quote about centrists reprimanding themselves for having convictions, I'll try to explain by saying that they see the monsters to their right reveling in the cruelty they inflict, and so instead of deciding that the cruelty must end (as that would involve recognizing systemic problems), they decide it's wrong to revel in any context. All about self control, all about denial of their compulsions.

Okay fine more quoting smart people, I liked Matt Christman's idea of the two parties becoming the "don't be a pussy" party and the "don't be an asshole" party. Liberals are saying "don't change anything, but stop being such an asshole about the unfairness." They just want their hegemony to not be such sore winners.

It's like fans of the ultramarines of in 40k. All this diverse grotesquerie and passionate evil to embrace, and you chose the cops

I respect you 40k mfs, the first time I ever got exposed to it was band class in middle school and there was only one other dude with my instrument, and he would segue into 40k lore literally every day without fail. it drove the instructor insane but he was mostly concerned with stopping percussion "people" from actively trolling or physically fighting one ankther

Moral of the story is the lore is pretty sick ngl

[–] Poogona@hexbear.net 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I'm not really a big 40k nerd tbh, both too nerdy and not nerdy enough for it. I was into what is considered more "highbrow" nerd stuff like lotr, dune, and Ursula LeGuin at that age. I was not cool it turns out

Most of what I learned of 40k lore was from looking for evidence of satire to trot out in arguments with insufferable people like you describe, though I did come to enjoy the satire after enough exposure. I can't bear 40k communities though

Wizards of Earthsea was insane in middle school god damn

[–] Poogona@hexbear.net 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I read it and Garth Nix's Abhorsen series in one very memorable summer at that age, good times

[–] voight@hexbear.net 2 points 2 years ago

Lmao yeah Garth Nix was huge and percy jackson, still is, and rhe bartimaeus books uhhh I'm missing a few of the popular YA shit from that era. Talking to some of my younger cousins and they're getting into the city of bones or mortal machines or tf it's called that shit blends together, seems rly cheesy and like Dungeons and Dragons campaign-transcription tier like half the movies they put out there under Marvel now. Ranger's apprentice and a lot of the same YA fiction. Only the games are different.

I tried to convince their parents roblox is evil

Because liberals are perverts who want to scold you for not having correct adult opinions.
