So that’s what I keep thinking. It’s a cheap lubricant that won’t degrade the rubber.
and it's water-soluble, so it'll clean off easily
pretty common to use it to seat tires
I think it's less "just dish soap bro" and more "every step of the process must be designed, completed, and accounted for with no exceptions"
I think that's the actual problem, yeah, but there's a reason every journalist who writes about it makes sure to include the dish soap part because they think it's ridiculous
You're right, I was drunk and tires when I wrote that and gave them too much credit
Yeah we’re not talking load-bearing dish soap. On those planes there are probably bigger fish to fry like extended service lives beyond what should be considered safe, poor QC and improper maintenance.
An aunt of mine died in a plane crash in the 90s. The maintenance crews left silver duct tape on the silver fuselage to protect some sensor ports while pressure washing. They forgot to remove the tape and shortly after takeoff the flight systems went haywire, namely the airspeed sensors. The pilot receiving mixed messages between the airspeed, ground speed and altitude gauges climbed, stalled then dipped the nose straight into the ocean
