For me, if I ever hear "card-based" or "soulslike" I have absolutely no desire to play a game, no matter how many people reccomend it.

I'm also not a huge fan of modern "roguelikes" but I've sunk days into nethack and games like that.

"Do homework first before you play" is not fun

If it’s well designed you shouldn’t have to do any homework, the game should be naturally teaching you the basics as you progress through play and 90% of the fun should be finding interactions through cards yourself without looking them up. I don’t know what you’re playing but it sounds miserable

Having to construct a deck is homework, fuck deck-building

deck builders are cool because you don’t build them beforehand though, you pick up cards as part of gameplay so instead of having to build a deck and do math and look up metas and shit you just click the cards that look cool during the game

Why would I waste time building a deck when there are people to shoot in the face with plasma guns

Hey that’s just as valid as enjoying deck building

Deck building games are when you make a deck through gameplay and not beforehand tho
