I keep getting shock content in my feed ever since getting on the kick of watching animal videos (cute stuff like grooming or animal being funny with humans). This one I reported had a thumbnail of a literal beheading moments before it happened. Naturally I didn't watch the video but I reported it.
Why in the fuck is someone who watches YT for retro gaming and animals getting gore content?
The recommendation algorithm is garbage, but at least the search function is also completely useless.

YouTube really is one of the most enshittified web services out there. Recommendations are terrible and possibly actively trying to push fascist propaganda, search is broken (probably intentionally), copyright claims are constantly getting content removed arbitrarily, monetization forces people to edit out bad words while conspiracy nuts are allowed to go ham, the list goes on. The only thing that would make it worse is if they started charging users for storage, which I have to believe is already in the works.
Not that YouTube was ever particularly good, but it’s so much worse than it could or should be given that it’s the primary video hosting site for a large part of the world.
A workaround is to use google video and add "youtube" or if search is being annoying "site:youtube.com". I only use youtube search if I want to do something google is shit at - like searching by most recent.
I'm shocked that any social media site would remove content you report. They always lie about their rules.
They'll say shit like "Discrimination against people based on gender identity is completely prohibited." At the same time, the hottest transphobic chud take is being shared around the whole site with millions of likes.
Yeah they make money off the ad clicks from people engaging with hate content so it's surprising when they take something down that was getting engagement.
Youtube Algorithm: "You like cute animals? Then surely you'll love this video of a dog being shot in the head!"
Literally and I don't get it at all. I could understand if I was watching 3 hour long videos about black people being in Star Wars but cat grooming???
I remember once when the Youtube app on my phone did that thing where it autoplays their offbrand Tiktok shit, it gave me one of those hornet killing videos. Man, I like bugs and it just shoves that in my face.
And I thought it was bad that most of the ads I get are for meat. Guess who doesn't eat meat.
Gore though, wth. Youtube is picky enough about gore that CNN and other outlets spend a little more time these days censoring the worst of it, apparently. Might as well leave it in for the easy recommendations I guess.
