It's a little sad that we need to actually say this, but:

Don't be an asshole or you will be permanently banned.

Respectful debate is totally OK, criticizing a product is fine, but being verbally abusive will not be tolerated.

Focus on discussing the idea, not attacking the person.

SYAC: "Potting, which uses a hardening resin poured between cells to isolate them from each other and the environment, can mitigate the two biggest factors resulting in fires: corrosion and physical damage."

Actually: makes them non repairable, hard or impossible to recycle, and inscrutable so you can put anything inside like a counter that kills the battery once it's past the warranty and a reasonable life but still likely to buy a replacement instead of changing brands.

Those are good points, I wouldn't put it past a lot of these companies to pull shady shit given the opportunity to make more money.

Sounds like it would make repairing batteries harder unfortunately.

Yeah those are some weird-ass tools.

And also weird ass-tools if you’re into that

Just an AI pic based on the title probably. The article never mentions DIY battery modifications, but the title kind of suggests it.

I was fortunate to switch to Grin's LiGo potted batteries a few years ago. They're spectacular not only because they're potted but also because they have per-cell balancing and monitoring.
