Oh come on. There can't possibly be that many people outside the US right?

[–] colmear@discuss.tchncs.de 49 points 2 years ago (3 children)

Well, there are at least twelve of us

[–] doyoulikemyparka@feddit.uk 16 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Woah hold your horses there bossman. You and the guy in OPs post. You got a way to go before you can back that claim of "at least" up!

[–] yggdar@lemmy.world 8 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

How sure are we that u/colmear isn't just an alt of OP? It could be just OP claiming they don't live in the US!

[–] doyoulikemyparka@feddit.uk 6 points 2 years ago

Your right. I'm such a fool! There's no hope!

That's because the rest of us just blame it on CIA weather balloons

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@literature.cafe 7 points 2 years ago (3 children)

Funny, I'm an American and I also blame it on the military industrial complex.

Specifically, fucking planes and now drones.

I have never thought about the alien sighting thing. Are they really all or mostly in the US?

[–] Rocketpoweredgorilla@lemmy.ca 19 points 2 years ago (1 children)
[–] DragonTypeWyvern@literature.cafe 18 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

One could certainly note that America also spends by far the most on things like stealth bombers and fighters, or that the most common types of sightings oh-so-coincidentally end up matching the profiles of those stealth planes once they become common knowledge.

[–] Rocketpoweredgorilla@lemmy.ca 12 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I don't remember where I read it (this was years ago) but The US had purposely experimented during the cold war with making people think they've seen ufo's to gauge their reactions and to feed the frenzy to make russia think they have more tech than they actually do.

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 5 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

I've read they do this with our own military too so they can gauge the reaction of military personnel elsewhere in the world without exposing them to our secret technology. I'm like 99% sure that's what all the recent UFO video stuff was that had been circling the Internet.

[–] objectionist@lemmy.world 14 points 2 years ago

a good 80% easily

We are not the same.

Why didn't they just say "in all states..." puzzles me. What other states can we be talking about?

[–] csfirecracker@lemmyf.uk 10 points 2 years ago (3 children)

Your neighbour, Mexico, has states for one.

[–] candybrie@lemmy.world 13 points 2 years ago

Yeah, but no one actually lives there, right? And if they do, they're certainly not on the internet.

All countries are states, and a good handful or so countries are federations which call their largest constituencies states, so Germany for example has states, as does Malaysia, as does Australia.

Edit: just reading now that there's no consensus on what a state is exactly, so, fuck knows.

[–] ElHexo@hexbear.net 9 points 2 years ago

The US isn't the only country in the world with states.

US states

United states states?

[–] mysoulishome@lemmy.world 10 points 2 years ago (8 children)

This isn’t even true in all 50 US States. Bro was getting teased for only knowing only one country…he actually knows zero.

[–] SnugZebras@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 2 years ago (1 children)

There are states in the US with a lower drinking age?

[–] Neve8028@lemm.ee 8 points 2 years ago

In what states is this not true? The National Minimum Drinking Age Act said that states needed to make the age 21 or else they would lose federal funding. Looks like they all complied from my quick research into it.

Ok, I’m getting some reports about potentially xenophobic comments and insults in this thread. I’d like to remind everyone to be nice and abide by the rules. I’m going to lock the thread now because I’m the only mod and I need to go to sleep. Have a good weekend everyone, and remember, it’s just a stupid post on the internet.

[–] quarrk@hexbear.net 8 points 2 years ago

Sorry buddy, the 21 years drinking age is international law per the rules-based order you agreed to.
