Never seen a target like that before. That’s cool, what’s it made of?

[–] johsny@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago (2 children)

It is some kind of high density foam sheets, maybe 5mm thick each. I’ll get a closeup pic:

This is a brand new one.

Oh thats a good idea! Friend of mine and i got a big foam target that is basically one big foam block, but this might be easier to fix after a long time of usage!

How much pounds are those bows?

[–] johsny@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yep, those targets works very well. The bow is maxed out at 42#

Fuck me haha. And here i am shaking with my 30 pounder haha
I dont use a compound bow though

[–] johsny@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

I used to shoot a 65#, but at my age it is starting to mess up my shoulders and I struggle to draw back properly more than 30 arrows or so. The 42 is a joy to shoot, I can shoot all day!

You can usually draw a significantly heavier compound than recurve or longbow, because the weight drops off when the bow is fully drawn.

I would say that most regular adults would be able to draw a 42# compound with no prior training.

I've seen DIY targets like that but with cardboard instead of the foam.

I don’t know how to link subs, but there are two, one on lemmy.world and one on lemmy.ml

They need more posts though.

Think I figured it out: https://lemmy.world/c/archery

(Nice bow, too, btw)

[–] Mbourgon@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

All good, I just had never thought of that, it’s cool!

[–] johsny@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

Works very well, stops 70# arrows at 10m no problem. Lasts very well too, and easy to repair after the center is shot out.

[–] PB_JellyTime@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Eyyyy! We have the same bow! 💪🔥

[–] johsny@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It’s a beauty, isn’t it? What poundage do you shoot?

[–] PB_JellyTime@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

43! :D I actually started on a Bear bow (a friend’s hand-me-down cause we’re both lefties) with 7 lbs a year ago and worked my way up. It’s been such a game changer upgrading to an Altus with a single pin sight!

[–] johsny@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Single pin sight is the next thing I’m upgrading to! Mine is 42#

[–] PB_JellyTime@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Oh dude! It’s a game changer! I used to squint and hope that somewhere “between line three and four” was 45 yards. Single pin really makes shots so much more consistent once you’re calibrated.

[–] johsny@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Oh, and that red is a beaut! Nice bow!
