Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

I would call it a "Journey" Dog

[–] Zachariah@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

life is not about the destination

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Well that sucks. The journey has been terrible. I have not enjoyed the last 41 years. Also, I'm 41.

[–] 200ok@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

A journey to every cigarette but and used tissue in sight 😂

Might get kind of tricky when crossing a busy street

The other side

"... or if you make it there."

Not all those who wander are lost. Sometimes they just play dog roulette

[–] tiefling@lemmy.blahaj.zone 18 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I have a Shiba. Walking her is like walking a cat, so I beg to differ

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 9 points 10 months ago

Nobody said she had to be a GOOD guide dog to count 🤷

[–] fraksken 16 points 10 months ago

This is a great quote. Describes how I feel at my job at the moment ...

Can I use it?

[–] erotador@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 10 months ago (1 children)

sometimes I just close my eyes and see where my dog takes me, is fun, mentally hard, but fun.

[–] theangryseal@lemmy.world 10 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I do this too. :p

The neighbors must think I’m insane.

I try to count the steps and see if I can make it further than before. My record is like 140.

It’s very mentally hard. I’m always thinking, “oh I’ve gotta be going down someone’s driveway now!”

[–] erotador@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 10 months ago

I try to use the dip in the curb for driveways to tell if I'm going the right way

[–] satanmat@lemmy.world 12 points 10 months ago (1 children)

You may not end up where you meant to go, but you’ll end up somewhere interesting

Didn't see that coming. Either.

[–] lord_ryvan@ttrpg.network 1 points 10 months ago

I'm sure the person needing a guiding dog didn't, either.

As long as you only want to go to places that smell of piss

[–] kyub@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 10 months ago

Similarly helpful advice: a broken clock still shows the correct time twice a day.

I'd say a dog would still go to predictable places eg. they'd go for a walk on their usual route (maybe a bit larger).

[–] Kecessa@sh.itjust.works 9 points 10 months ago

I often let my dog choose where we're walking and he takes it as an opportunity to update all the places he knows in town, so we end up walking a 5k loop, it's just more chaotic than when I'm leading.

[–] fmstrat@lemmy.nowsci.com 6 points 10 months ago

I had a Husky. For me it would have been the random path of deer, rabbits, and random people's driveways. He had no sense of direction, and cared not for walking norms.

[–] lord_ryvan@ttrpg.network 2 points 10 months ago

My dog would indeed go one of his usual routes, just whichever one he liked most at the moment.

Then he got old and him leading the way would mean pissig over the neighbour's hedge and going back to the couch.

Now he's not walking anymore. Well, maybe on clpuds.

[–] rumba@lemmy.zip 6 points 10 months ago (1 children)

As long as you don't mind going to all the smelliest places.

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

Psh, as I've grown older I am hoping the dog would just be a lazy dog and just suggest we lay down and take a nap

[–] kameecoding@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

Man you are just ripping off my welcome mat.

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

The park. You're going to the park. Everyday. If you live in a warm environment with a beach, that's where you're going. That park.

That's why I call my cat a guide cat. He guides me to lolll around on the couch for 22h a day
