Welcome to /c/fakehistoryporn@lemmy.world , where fake history is made. Find a historically significant photo, come up with a fake history title, post it, laugh.

The name is a reference to the fact that the pictures should be worth marveling at. This is NOT a place for hardcore pornography. Tasteful nudity is fine as long as it fits within the context of the post (please mark it as NSFW).

I was not Abel to understand this reference and thought it was biblical.

It's Cain and Abel, I don't know why the title is referencing Romulus and Remus.

Because Romulus killed Remus in a dispute over where to locate the city

Yes, I'm aware of that, but it's hardly the only case of mythological fratricide. What I'd like to know is why is it referencing specifically the founding of Rome instead of any of the other examples. Chiefly, why not just reference the story the art piece originally referenced (which to my knowledge is Cain and Abel.)

Try chillin out buddy

Check title of community

I'm genuinely just curious. I default to ultra-formal and specific.

Imagine if Remus had been the one to kill his brother.

The capital would have been called Remes

And the people Remans

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Star Trek would have the Vulcans and Remulans

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Star Trek: Nemesis would have had the bad guys coming from Romulus

Our science would be much different too. Colorless would be monochreme. We would measure in micremeters. Study the field of aereumechanics.

And of course, we'd have the classic Remeus and Juliet.

I don't think the first three examples work just because they have the word 'rome' in them. The roots of those words actually predate Rome itself.

Romeo would definitely change though because that name is a direct reference to Rome

I agree. But you can't take monochreme away from me now.

The Senate and People of Remes have spoken

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Gross. I don't want to ever do as the Remens do.

They're fighting over who gets to impregnate their mother

Nah. Classical sources often don't bother listing female children so it can be assumed they were impregnating their sisters.
