How the fuck is it possible to airdrop files to strangers' phones?
That's a massive invasion of privacy. Just imagine getting a notification on your phone while you sit on the bus, and when you click on it, it's a pic of the guy sitting in front of you jerking his cock.

Fun fact: The Chinese government can routinely overcome the encryption used by AirDrop, which allows them to track users and get their phone numbers and email addresses.

it’s not possible anymore iirc because of a recent update. you can enable universal receiving but it turns off after a few minutes always. OOP is making this story up most likely.

Or they meant Quick Share on Android, but I doubt anyone actually uses that.

[–] spujb@lemmy.cafe 24 points 5 months ago

most likely its just a joke. “i airdropped this to everyone at [location]” has become a trope thats almost its own meme format and doesn’t require any proof.

I hate this. I loved always having airdrop for everyone on and I'd sometimes randomly get funny pictures airdropped and would airdrop funny pictures back. Sometimes even having a random conversation with a stranger in the same place.

This was genuinely a great feature (and something you explicitly disable), so it really sucks that this is not possible anymore (as the setting doesn't exist anymore / turns off automatically after a few minutes).

I've never had airdrop but this sounds like fun. I would have loved this feature too, even if it meant an occasional unsolicited dick pic.

i think what u r describing is pictochat, not airdrop.

[–] Korne127@lemmy.world 1 points 5 months ago

…no, I'm describing AirDrop

Unironically this happened to me in middle school. It's not even a hypothetical situation, it's just what people do lol

literally the least disturbing thing abt this post but go off

[–] MossyFeathers@pawb.social 30 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I'd argue that Twitter is the most disturbing part. Imagine being a furry who still uses Twitter. What the fuck has to have gone wrong in your life to still be using Twitter as a furry?

[–] spujb@lemmy.cafe -4 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (1 children)

the biggest flaw with lemmy is that none of yall can conceptualize how difficult it is to convince your entire friend group to migrate platforms

the furry community on twitter is and ~~almost always has been massive.~~ (edit: i think i was corrected by an actual member of the community below, im slightly misinformed here) nothing went wrong—things just haven’t gone right yet to get them to transfer like journalists and activists have.

[–] MossyFeathers@pawb.social 12 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Most of us migrated to bluesky early on. Like, part of the reason why bluesky blew up was because invite codes spread like wildfire through the furry community.

[–] spujb@lemmy.cafe 3 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Interesting! I actually didn’t know the previous state—I am simply just aware that furry Twitter is still huge currently, despite the transition.

Do you think there is hope for a second wave? Or are the laggards beyond hope, from your perspective?

[–] MossyFeathers@pawb.social 6 points 5 months ago

Eh, a lot of them are probably mirroring their posts to Twitter. They'll probably be there until someone forces them off. The ones who haven't migrated or started to migrating are kinda probably "beyond hope".

[–] TheSaus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 5 months ago

Twitter is far more disturbing than a bit of weird furry artwork, nazi bar or whatever it is people say.

[–] python@lemmy.world 16 points 5 months ago

smh my head, Luigi Pawgione was right there!!

[–] luciole@beehaw.org 9 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Heh, I didn’t know Luigi liked Breloom. Fine taste in Pokémon. I’m all in for this badass grass type becoming an obscure symbol for class war.
