Community Revival

256 readers
1 users here now

This community is for discussion of dead communities and the planning of reviving them.

What should a post/comment look like?

A post ideally would be mentioning that community, what value it could contribute to the fediverse, how much dedication it would take and approximately how many mods there should be, and a call for volunteers.

A comment should be a suggestion, correction or volunteering.

What is a dead community?

A community which all mods are inactive for more than 3 months, and the modlog has had no activity for the same time.

Please ping all the admins in the comments too, this is necessary.

Rules

The rules are very simple.

  1. All posts must be about a dead community. Meta posts should be marked [META]
  2. Be nice.

... i will work on the icon/banner later ;)

Still seems pretty active. Though the mod has not been, for two years.

!firefox@lemmy.world (thanks for reminding me nocturne, lmao)

Ahhh... yeah... I joined lemmy.world back when the whole Reddit protest was happening. I was using it for a while, but then I kinda just... stopped. I'm still a mod, so I'd log in every once in a while to check on things, but those times have been few and far between. I'd love to say that I intend to start using it a bunch again, but I can't promise that I'll actually do it (I mean my track record is kinda terrible lol). I do like the idea of supporting the fediverse though, so I'll give it one more shot.

Np, that's understandable. !firefox@fedia.io is also interesting, i prefer to avoid LW due to how big it is personally.

Maybe it should consolidate with other Firefox communities instead?

Firefox@lemmy.world (besides .ml) is the biggest firefox community. There's fedia.io but that only has 77 users, but the mod is active.

I feel it would be more worth it to focus on a community with already 4,500 users and ok activity, rather than try to grow completely from scratch

77 users

It doesn't have 77 users, it has 4200 tho? A screenshot of a community, sounds comparable to me. Additionaly it's not not on a big instance, so that's good for decentralization

Ohh, it doesn't federate properly with dbzer0, sorry 🤦‍♂️ I checked on my .world alt and it seems to have 1,000 instead? It's strange.

However if the mod is interested it's fine by me. @yoasif@fedia.io thoughts on consolidating @firefox@lemmy.world with @firefox@fedia.io?
