I don't know what Kafkaesque means and I do know what Orwellian means so imma hafta go with Kafkaesque

[–] RedDawn@hexbear.net 14 points 2 years ago (2 children)

It means reminiscent of the works of Franz Kafka, especially the Trial. The main character is put on trial by a nightmarish bureaucracy and never really even knows what he's accused of or how he's supposed to comply with the court's procedure which is also unclear, I think he ends up getting executed. It's a good word for describing how it feels living in America sometimes. Probably better than Orwellian since Orwell kind of sucks and the word itself seems mostly used by chuds for all the wrong stuff.

I always understood it to mean like "cruel, unfair but boring, mundane". Or "bleak to the point of absurdity to an outside viewer".

Yeah that's a pretty good definition

Oh perfect you're just going to assume I'm in the picture then, huh? And how am I supposed to respond to that?

As Gregor Samsa awoke one morning from uneasy dreams he found himself transformed in his bed into a tiny corncob dril

As Gregor Samsa awoke one morning from uneasy dreams he found himself transformed in his bed into a gigantic insect. He was laying on his hard, as it were armor-plated, back and when he lifted his head a little he could see his domelike brown belly divided into stiff arched segments on top of which the bed quilt could hardly keep in position and was about to slide off completely. His numerous legs, which were pitifully thin compared to the rest of his bulk, waved helplessly before his eyes.

I've mever met anyone who describes everything as kafkaesque. It's only something I see people complain about.

I’m the not pictured bug in the corner (kafka reference)

Orwell is a cop and a snitch so Kafka wins by default edgeworth-shrug
