[–] superniceperson@sh.itjust.works 45 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Memes are memes, why are you subscribed to a meme page if you don't like memes

[–] tja@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Because they cannot/don't want to read. Or they just don't care

Right-wing version of The Onion.

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 26 points 2 months ago (3 children)

Wait.... So their version of a joke is to.... Make a joke at their own expense because of how shitty Vance is?

[–] Lauchmelder@feddit.org 19 points 2 months ago (1 children)

a broken clock is right twice a day

They are more traditional right, not MAGA right. They make fun of the Republican party all the time.

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Oh? Glorious glorious juicy infighting.

The pot: No, YOU'RE black!

The other pot: No, you're black.

[–] IndiBrony@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

We're all black on this blessed day!

[–] reseller_pledge609@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Fuck knows, honestly. I'm not American so I don't even try to claim to understand Republicans.

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

I'm American, and me neither. It's honestly still such a mystery to me that I do think about quite often.

The best that I can come up with is that it's a mixture of a culture of oppression through a cycle of psychological abuse that they've grown to be proud and belligerent to perpetuate, deeply profound ignorance, and a unique emphasis on faith and its taboo of critical thought; all amounting to a society with a stagnation of free will and progress.

Of course, that is a amalgamation or conglomeration of a wide spectrum of archetypes of people, liberals and non Americans included. It's a survival instinct and a cope in almost all cases.

Finding people even conceptually aware of this earthly prison is rare, and finding a person with both an awareness and a plan to bring us above it AND the power to bring it to fruition AND the drive to do so... hasn't happened yet.

Also with a Christian slant if I recall correctly

[–] Lemjukes@lemm.ee 12 points 2 months ago (2 children)

The Onion but by Christian conservatives.

[–] FrChazzz@lemm.ee 8 points 2 months ago

They were pretty funny when they got started. They would openly roast Joel Osteen and all the Prosperity Gospel crap. Then they decided to wade into politics. And misogyny. So much misogyny.

[–] FrChazzz@lemm.ee 5 points 2 months ago

Technically it’s a post of guy putting a Babylon Bee headline on someone else’s page, now screen shot to yours.

[–] Croquette@sh.itjust.works 32 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It took me 10 seconds to realize this was a joke, and another 10 to get the joke.

I don't like this timeline

[–] boonhet@lemm.ee 2 points 2 months ago

It took me no seconds to get the joke, but 10 seconds to realize that it was a joke for real.

[–] betterdeadthanreddit@lemmy.world 25 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Smart move, JD would've sucked that old man's tongue right out of his head.

[–] Xanthrax@lemmy.world 12 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

I still haven't been able to wrap my head around that event. It makes me want to vomit.

I wonder what brand of fucking big television the dalai lama has. 🤔

[–] SpruceBringsteen@lemmy.world 21 points 2 months ago (1 children)

In light of the Dalai's earlier pronouncement that his successor would be female, the administration has promised him immortality.

[–] lath@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Nirvana does not care for the mortal body limitations. Enlightenment is universal.

[–] superniceperson@sh.itjust.works 14 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Tell that to Buddhists, especially Tibetan Buddhists which explicitly discriminate against women and claim they will never reach enlightenment.

[–] lath@lemmy.world 10 points 2 months ago

Exactly why they themselves haven't reached enlightenment. Too concerned with being petty of others instead of untangling the self.

[–] index@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (2 children)

Have people forgot already the "suck my tongue" pedo shit this guy pulled out?

[–] alekwithak@lemmy.world 14 points 2 months ago (1 children)

No, I definitely remember when the mainstream media jumped at the chance to smear one of the most peaceful spiritual figures alive, context be damned. They took a culturally unfamiliar moment and ran it through a Western lens to manufacture outrage. And look, they're still collecting dividends on it!

[–] index@sh.itjust.works 0 points 2 months ago (2 children)

No, I definitely remember when the mainstream media jumped at the chance

He asked a child to suck his tongue, there's no context the guy is a pedo

[–] dovahking@lemmy.world 0 points 2 months ago

Yeah. Just like theatre guys tell others to "break a leg". There's no context. Every one of them is a psychopath for wishing harm.

[–] alekwithak@lemmy.world -1 points 2 months ago

there's no context the guy is a pedo

Wtf do you think context is?

[–] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

That does sound like something the Dalai Lama would say.

[–] Pacattack57@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It is a cultural difference slightly taken out of context. Albeit it is incredibly jarring for Americans and other European countries. He did issue an apology for it.

[–] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It is a cultural difference slightly taken out of context.

Go on ...

This is a perfectly normal thing in Tibetan culture?

[–] Pacattack57@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

Sort of. According to residents who defended him they said it is a normal joke that elderly people to do children in Tibet.

[–] Underwire@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

By the way why the pope even accepted (he or someone of his entourage) to meet with JD Vance?

[–] peteyestee@feddit.org 5 points 2 months ago

He doesn't want to die yet.

[–] Wilco@lemm.ee 5 points 2 months ago

Dalai is finding himself some Necrotic damage resist gear first.

[–] Gork@lemm.ee 4 points 2 months ago

Flashbacks to Assassin's Creed 2 where you fistfight with the Pope.
