ApocalypticArt - where the remnants of humanity's past meet the promise of an uncertain future. This is the place for apocalyptic wastelands, remains of once-thriving metropolises and forgotten relics of a bygone era.

Always credit the original artist when creating a new post!

A good title format that's used on !digitalart@lemmy.world is: Image title by Artists Name, so let's use that here, too.

Provide a link to the image source or the artists' gallery / social media account(s).

Posting your own work is allowed and encouraged, but please let the community breathe and don't spam.

Don't post AI-generated art, since the legal situation regarding ownership is very shady.

All artworks are copyright of the artists named in the posts. Artists gallery links may contain NSFW works.

Source says no AI, but I have a hard time believing that. Very weird composition.

The other day my friend and I were talking about the “style” of generative art and how we expect to see human artists copy it as it grows in popularity.

I agree, the composition is very weird.

It's either AI or trying to emulate AI by not making sense.

To me, the image looked manually overpainted on first glance, which is an art style that can be often found in hidden object picture games - so it wasn't obvious AI art to me, or else I wouldn't have posted it. The most obvious sign of AI art is weird anatomy (broken hands etc.) and that is used as a horror element in his works, so it can't be used to spot the images as AI easily - that might be a deliberate choice, after all.

However, I looked closer at the header image for a while. And yeah, the background buildings look a bit too warped to be entirely made by hand.

Why would a building have a curve here? This seems to be some weird projection issue someone wouldn't just add here.

I think I'll avoid posting works from this artist in the future. I still don't believe he's making these images entirely with AI and he probably uses a mixture of overpainting, generating AI assets and bashing them together, but a lot of the images seem somewhat fishy and the weird texts/logos on a lot of artworks ("Restaurant" here and "Happy Holidays" on one of the buildings in the artwork above) don't fill me with confidence either.

I've hidden the post so it can't be reached as easily anymore and added a disclaimer to the title.
Thanks for being sceptical, posting non-AI art is a rule here after all. :)

I was curious and looked into it, they (or at least their deviant art account) started in 2020, which is when genai took off. The horror art feels weird, maybe uninspired? It's hard to explain how the monsters they 'draw' don't look right, but that could be the point since it's horror. Their non-horror stuff is easier to judge, since it's still weird without the excuse of trying to be. It's getting words correct, but those might just be titles added post-hoc. It feels like their style and skill level hasn't really changed, but I'm not a trained artist and i was just skimming so i could be wrong.

All in all, if this isn't ai I'll... probably do nothing, but I'd be very surprised.

That's what ultimately threw me off, including some weird perspective issues here and there - those could just be typical signs of a beginner artist, but something feels fishy about his artwork - so I've decided to hide this post and to not post any more works from this artist here.

Plot twist: the one guy in there ate from the whole menu and was forced to isolate inside the location due to nonstop bowels.

This building is very clearly a waffle house. I know what the signs are and the signs are wrong. I've seen this silhouette far too many times at 2am under varying states of sobriety to be fooled by a few measly arches
