The economic agreement is intended to provide Ukraine with an implicit security arrangement while addressing President Trump’s concerns that the U.S. has provided Kyiv with a blank check.

"We're not going to uphold our previous security assurances, but here are some more security assurances, for real this time" seems like a play out of Russia's playbook.

Back in 2017 there was also the framework of an agreement to have the US help develop and profit from gold and rare-earths in Afghanistan.

I'll leave you to speculate how that turned out.
