Hello,

i'm a newbie to the sailing world. I am in the process of getting my (german/international) boating license. I'm wondering though, since its mostly theoretical with very limited time hands on on a real boat, where some of you guys learned to sail. Theoretically after this course I am allowed to sail any noncommercial vessel.

Thank you for your help!

My wife and I took ASA sailing classes in the US because we had zero experience, and that was great way to learn the basics. But getting introduced to the sailing clubs in our area and getting involved in the local racing was where the real education began.

Best we to learn is to get in a little dinghy and go out and have fun! Dress appropriately, you'll be getting wet!

For everyone that is interesred: i found a small sailing school, they have a few Valk boats and I paid a trainer at least for the first few times on a sailing boat to be with me and explain everything. It doesn't cost as much as I thought, and having someone professional with me calms my mind. Cheers, and thank you for all the answers!
