I cant imagine retrofitting such an ancient structure for modern prison standards will be cheap...

Like... you'd be better off building a new structure...

My high school U.S. government teacher was Albert Patraz. He had a sticker on his lectern, made and given by a former student, that read "I escaped Al Patraz."

Hmm, I'm no historian but I seem to recall they closed it because it cost a gazillion dollars to boat everything the prisoners and staff needed on a remote island. So is DOGE gonna get on that, or...

he is living in dementia. he literally mentioned the plot of escape from alcatraz. the movie had just recently aired in Florida.
