i retired from watching videos with Ben Shapiro in it, let alone 10 mins

[–] NewNewAccount@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Sounds like a happy retirement.

[–] expatriado@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago

it was a shitty job, i thought i was doing something mildly productive, but realized it was just fast pace bullshit

I know most are not fans of AI, but summarizing Ben Shapiro videos without having to watch them is a pretty good use case

Gemini Video Summary
Here is a summary of the video, broken down into key points:

  • Ben Shapiro's position: The video discusses Ben Shapiro's challenging position, as he tries to balance his disagreements with the Trump administration and the financial requirements of The Daily Wire [00:00].
  • Daily Wire's Financial Issues: The video references a deep dive on YouTube by Jose, which highlights The Daily Wire's financial troubles. These issues are attributed to the company's entertainment ambitions [00:41].
  • Criticism of Trump and Navarro: The video mentions Shapiro's attempt to influence Trump to heed more sensible conservatives and to dismiss Peter Navarro. It criticizes Navarro's trade deficit formula and tariff policies [02:06].
  • Candace Owens and Anti-Semitism: The video touches on Ben Shapiro's past association with Candace Owens, pointing out that he overlooked her anti-Semitic remarks until she criticized Israel [05:15].
  • Trump's behavior: The video also includes a discussion about Donald Trump, referencing his past comments and behavior [08:40].

he overlooked her anti-semitic remarks until she criticized Isreal?

that's one of the takes you could have from all this, Ben

[–] Aabbcc@lemm.ee 8 points 1 month ago

Absolutely insane because she was NOT subtle about it

[–] SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de 22 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I feel bad for the AI having to have processed this.

Can't be healthy for its weights

[–] brax@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Bigger worry is that it could be learning from this shit. We could be turbo-pushing the Overton window by feeding it drives of brain-dead shit.

For every 1 zombie vid you summarize, you should give it two 60+ minute quality videos to summarize.

[–] DrivebyHaiku@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 month ago

Well the good news is that AI has zero ability to make value judgements on normalacy of veiws or interpret novel data. It's just fancy statistics that you can manually set parameters on what to favour or rules to follow.

Just cuz it gets more of something doesn't mean it starts picking sides. People are paid to fine tune it's reactions and conclusions manually.

[–] acockworkorange@mander.xyz 2 points 1 month ago

That's what worrying for its weights mean.

I watch people like Ben Shapiro all the time because I don’t want to exclusively live in my echo chamber and it’s good to challenge your beliefs and staying up to date with all sides.

I prefer the more moderate conservatives but it’s good to watch everything.

Something i am concerned about here on Lemmy is the instant downvoting without discussion of dissenting opinions. Hardly conducive to bringing about a revolution if we won’t even engage with certain people.

Seems like a massive circle jerk at times where we can all feel superior because we have empathy. But i want actual change and not just to seem like I’m progressive.

[–] Franklin@lemmy.ca 41 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I agree it's good to subject yourself to other viewpoints but I'm definitely not going to subject myself to actual propaganda

[–] dependencyinjection@discuss.tchncs.de -5 points 1 month ago (2 children)

All news is propaganda, every side has an agenda it’s just some align more with our morals.

I for one need to know what the lunatics are being told by the grifters so I can formulate arguments against their outlandish claims.

Just my thoughts on it and I am a nobody really.

[–] Franklin@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 month ago

valid but I think the specific brand that Joe Rogan and Ben Shapiro have is obviously part of Republican media out reach that is becoming increasingly divorced from reality

[–] Glitterbomb@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

I recommend an intermediary like Rm Brown on youtube. Watching him let's me keep tabs on the latest stupid going ons without needing to steep myself in it.

[–] SacralPlexus@lemmy.world 18 points 1 month ago

I get what you’re saying but people like Ben Shapiro, Candice Owens, etc have proven themselves to be shitstain propagandists many years ago. Regularly consuming propaganda, even if you know what it is, is not healthy and it does affect you.

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 11 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

That's like saying, "Yeah like to drink Clorox because i like to know what the poison tastes like."

I understand it though. I used to be like that. Now I'm too old to waste my time on them.

[–] dependencyinjection@discuss.tchncs.de -3 points 1 month ago (2 children)

So what’s the goal if you don’t want to bring more people to your side of things? Nothing will change.

[–] hanrahan@slrpnk.net 7 points 1 month ago

As Hannah Ardent opined, she was there to observe and document, changing peoples mind wasn't her objective.

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Who said i have any goals?

[–] dependencyinjection@discuss.tchncs.de -5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Good point.

So self righteous circle jerk would be accurate?

I don’t mean this to be antagonistic, just really curious as to the point.

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 10 points 1 month ago (2 children)

When you talk to your friends about things you share in common, are you self righteously circle jerking?

No.

I get your point of view, but I ain’t got time to listen to these chuds.

[–] dependencyinjection@discuss.tchncs.de -2 points 1 month ago (4 children)

Do you see how if the other side has this same mentality then nothing really changes?

[–] drislands@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

I don't rightly expect whether I watch propaganda to change the opinions of those that believe it. Just because "they" won't consume content I know to be good, that means I should consume content I know to be bad to balance it out?

[–] JacksonLamb@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

You sound like you think each of us is quantum entangled with someone on another side.

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 3 points 1 month ago

They haven't even watched the video.
Their entire schtick is "both sides".

[–] sxan@midwest.social 4 points 1 month ago

The other side says things like "I'd still vote for him even if he shot my dog." There is no rationality there; there is no benefit to listening to cultists.

[–] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 month ago

The "other side" can't be helped with mere words because they've been conditioned to ignore reality (or they've picked their position on feelings and don't want to change). Libs watching Benny shaps lie and support genocide isn't going to change the maga electorate.

As soon as you find a conservative who doesn't lie, let me know and I'll check out some of their content, but I don't think there's literally a single honest gop supporter these days.

[–] Scolding7300@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

So what did he say in the video?

[–] dependencyinjection@discuss.tchncs.de -2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

This particular one is still on my watch list. The last thing I saw of him was him calling out Matt Walsh.

[–] flicker@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 month ago

So you came here to defend videos like this, without actually watching this video? Seems irresponsible.

[–] garbagebagel@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

I agree with viewing both sides, but I would rather read what they're saying than watch the shit come out their mouths.

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 2 points 1 month ago

So have you even watched the video yet or what? Lmao

[–] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 46 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I would watch an actual leopard actually eat his face for 10 minutes, but otherwise, no thanks

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

I would skip to about the 3 minute mark when it really starts to get good

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 40 points 1 month ago

I'll have to take your word for it, I'm not listening to that voice any more than necessary.
