Alexander is the last living American citizen still believed to be held hostage by Hamas. The terror group is believed to also be holding the bodies of four dead American hostages, according to U.S. officials.

"The prime minister discussed the last-ditch effort to implement the outline for the release of the hostages presented by Witkoff, before the escalation of the fighting," the statement said. "To this end, the prime minister instructed that a negotiating delegation be sent to Doha tomorrow."

From the NY Times:

Mr. Alexander is an American Israeli dual citizen who grew up in Tenafly, N.J.

In 2022, during his senior year of high school, he joined Garin Tzabar, which prepares young people from around the world to join the Israel Defense Forces. He moved to Israel to serve in the military after he graduated and was assigned to the infantry.

Mr. Alexander was stationed near the border with Gaza in September 2023

From another article, he said something like "why should I pay for the Israeli government's mistake". Sounds like this falls into the 'just following orders doesn't protect you' category; not feeling a lot of sympathy.

Seems to me that soldiers taking other solders prisoner is widely considered fair play and not the same thing as kidnapping a civilian at a music festival.

It's impossible to read American coverage of Palestine without referencing Chomsky and Ermon's theory of the 'Five Filters' in media.

No matter which side, I'm glad to see someone is freed and reunited with family. War is hell no matter the side.

Are US citizens allowed to join the armies of other countries? I'm surprised by that
