MODERATORS

Donald Trump and his Republican allies are “petty bitches” for refusing to display a congressionally approved plaque honoring police officers who protected the US Capitol when the president’s supporters attacked the complex on 6 January 2021, says one of the cops in question, Michael Fanone.

Speaking recently on the show hosted by political broadcast journalist Jim Acosta, the famously candid and oft profane Fanone said he also had a suggestion about where Republican US House speaker Mike Johnson could position the commemoration. “I think that it would be … perfect … if the plaque was shoved up his ass,” said Fanone, who retired from the Washington DC police force after being wounded during the January 6th attack.

Fanone’s remarks in part demonstrated the discontent among many in law enforcement about the way Trump has handled the aftermath of the Capitol assault, which was meant to keep him in the Oval Office after his first presidency ended in defeat to Joe Biden in the 2020 election won by the Democrats.

Trump insults the police and military on a daily basis.

Be interesting to see how they stand when the time comes.

You know the answer to that.

When the band plays "Hail to the Chief"
Ooh, they point the cannon at you

and they still bend over backwards to vote Republican every time.

hes also allegedly forcing all the officers in the military(former or current) in his birthday parade to sleep on cots.

I suppose I could do a fact check on that, but my mind is still reeling from the music video he released yesterday.

If you didn't see it, he's a rock star with a dozen go-go dancers behind him. And a flag guitar.

Good chunk of Military isn't trump stans. Neither are a decent sized group of nat parks/capitol police/various other LEO.

Wonder what the percentage is on that.

I'm gonna be real. Stuff like this news is why we in Canada aren't really changing our opinion of America overall and Americans. It's like everyone with a platform to say anything just says the bare minimum possible. Like if we heard a lot more public people say that Donald Trump is a literal traitor to the constitution we might change our opinion a bit. But it's just... this. Harshest language I see is on Lemmy and Reddit. Dude was almost killed during the insurrection but the best he can say is that they're "petty" and should "shove the plaque up their ass".

Our media has been working overtime to sane-wash everything and it's done immeasurable damage

[–] Stamets@lemmy.world 15 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

That's very true but it's not just the media that is complicit in this. Damn near everyone in a position of power or authority who keeps saying nothing or the absolute bare minimum. The longer this goes on the longer Canadians will never trust Americans again, nevermind the rest of the planet. Every ounce of soft power you guys had has been obliterated and America is never going to get it or trust in it back within our lifetimes.

Can't say I blame you...

the alleged assassination, was mostly staged considering he had no injury to his ear.

[–] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 17 points 6 days ago (4 children)

Trump and the GOP would put up a plaque honoring the rioters.

[–] griff@lemmings.world 2 points 6 days ago

They put up with a plague to…something…something…

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 1 points 5 days ago

they gave 5mil to ashli babbits family, they might put a plaque or statue of her at some point.

[–] CmdrShepard42@lemm.ee 0 points 5 days ago

They're literally paying Ashley Babbit's family $5 million after she was shot trying to crawl through the window of a barricaded door into the Speaker's Lobby.

I really hope that officer sues her estate for $5 million for the pain and suffering of having to kill someone committing multiple felonies.

[–] DandomRude@lemmy.world 13 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Another appropriate word that comes to mind is traitors.
