In late April 2025, the developer behind Winlator, BrunoSX, announced a sudden pause in development. There was no mention of when the dev would be back, but now, the official GitHub page has been updated, hinting at the return of BrunoSX.

Winlator is among the most popular Windows game emulators for Android. With a large community behind it, the emulator has reached to a state where it can run many old AAA games.

This is great news, it was really sad to see such a cool one-person project nearly destroyed by abusive reactionaries

No. There was malware in the releases. The issue was most likely accidental, something that spread from their computer. But they didn't handle it well.

Discussed here:

The emulation on android community definitely has a problem with ungrateful trolls though, particularly on the discords, which is why I am annoyed whenever projects bother to create one. I've seen 2-3 projects get shut down because of harassment on their discords.

Thanks for the update. Is there any "clear" summary of what actually happened? Trying to read that comment section isn't really giving me any info!
