Bolt is Estonian. Their app lets you order and pay for taxis, e-bikes and probably scooters as well. I use them regularly.

And I agree. If you have to, for some reason, book a taxi in a European city, you will often get it sooner with Bolt than Uber (my experience from Poland). It is partially because Bolt gives more to the drivers, and they have both apps. It has scooters and Bolt Food. It is available in many places outside of Europe, but unfortunately not Canada, Australia, or New Zealand.

Can't delete something I don't have

what happened? what is the alternative?

[โ€“] jmcs@discuss.tchncs.de 26 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Taxis? You know, the regulated alternative that's not in the process of doing a bait and switch by selling services at a loss until competition dies and then increase the prices.

The problem with traditional taxis is that after booking them, you have no indication of when they will show up and along the way, you mostly have no information about the cost. Same thing if you get a taxi on the street without pre booking. You have no idea of the resulting price.

Depends on where you are. In Australia most taxi companies have an app that works like uber. Shows you the route and a fixed price. And when a driver picks up your fare, it'll show you where they are.

Taxi's are pretty shite tbh even with the app :\

Do the taxi's have something like Uber Green:

Haha honestly I have no idea. I live near a train station so not a lot of opportunity to catch either taxis or uber..

[โ€“] Patch@feddit.uk 6 points 1 month ago

The two big minicab firms in my town both use apps with very similar functionality to Uber. Fixed fare, vehicle tracking etc.

Uber doesn't have a monopoly on nice apps. It's [current year], that stuff is standard now.

Here in Germany there's a site that let's you calculate estimated cost. Depends on the course taken and, of course, will be more reliable the longer the trip is. But still. I also once had a deal with one driver for a flatrate for trips.

Sure they're disgustingly expensive here, but fuck UBER. More and more of those show up here. And when they managed to fuck taxis outta existence, the prices will rise.

[โ€“] starlinguk@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You ask them to show up at a particular time and then they just do. And you can ask about the cost when you contact them.

[โ€“] AncientSoul@reddthat.com 1 points 1 week ago

Iโ€™m guessing this varies between countries. The thing is where I live, they donโ€™t always show up in time and if they show up, you have to pay anyway

[โ€“] CircaV@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 month ago

Never had one! Taxi companies have apps!

[โ€“] pdqcp@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Hell yeah, public transport and biking are always my preferred options. You should do the same if viable, if not, demand for it

[โ€“] HikingVet@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 month ago

Can't delete what you never had.

[โ€“] P1nkman@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

In order to follow your statement, I'll have install and create an account, just to have it deleted? I'd rather just never register with them.

[โ€“] MrPoletki@feddit.uk 2 points 1 month ago

Fuck uber, sans luber.

[โ€“] Bort@hilariouschaos.com 2 points 1 month ago (2 children)

It seems like even though they say your account was deleted, itโ€™s still recoverable (by clicking cancel), which means, at this point it wasnโ€™t deleted.

[โ€“] Spectrism@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 1 month ago

This seems like a confirmation popup, according to the reduced brightness. While the cancel button is still visible, you won't be able to tap it and even if you could, it won't work because the account actually got deleted after selecting "Delete Account". And of course also because you're going to be logged out, as the message says. I have never used Uber, let alone deleted an account there, so I may be wrong, but I'm fairly certain that the account actually got deleted at that point, if my assumptions are correct.

[โ€“] Dyskolos@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 month ago

I just assume a backup of my acc would still be stored in headquarters forever anyway. I don't think they value European regulations more than they absolutely have to.

[โ€“] Babalugats@feddit.uk 1 points 1 month ago

What happened or what new revelation is there that everyone must delete now as opposed to weeks or months ago? I never have had an under account, just curious as to what may have changed.
