Community Revival

This community is for discussion of dead communities and the planning of reviving them.

What should a post/comment look like?

A post ideally would be mentioning that community, what value it could contribute to the fediverse, how much dedication it would take and approximately how many mods there should be, and a call for volunteers.

A comment should be a suggestion, correction or volunteering.

What is a dead community?

A community which all mods are inactive for more than 3 months, and the modlog has had no activity for the same time.

Please ping all the admins in the comments too, this is necessary.

Rules

The rules are very simple.

  1. All posts must be about a dead community. Meta posts should be marked [META]
  2. Be nice.

... i will work on the icon/banner later ;)

It's my own community but I've definitely semi-abandoned it... There's a new post from today, but the last one before that was 5 months ago. Every post is from me lol. I could use some help from another textiles person to help grow it and keep it going.

The thing that always made that OLD site valuable to me was the niche knowledge. If only like 5 people in the whole world knew how to do some specific thing in your incredibly rare hobby/job/craft/etc, those 5 people were on the sub devoted to it and probably already had the answer posted. That's what I wanted to see more of here, and the topic where I can contribute to that just happens to be obscure textiles. We have a ton of niche textile RSS sources tracked in our Fediverser profile too.

Just hit me up if you want to be added as a mod! Thank you so much in advance!!

By "ping all the admins in the comments", I assume that means of the dead community right? In this case, it's just lil' ol' me.

I did once when it was new, maybe it would've been better to wait till it had more content?

It seems like you are lacking content because you are the only one posting.

I just had a quick look, there is !lemmy_stitch@sh.itjust.works who has more regular activity, would it be maybe easier to contribute there, and lock !bistitchual@piefed.social for the moment?

Lemmy_stitch is only for cross-stitch and embroidery. As far as I know, there isn't another community for ALL forms of needlecraft. There are communities for, say, knitting and crochet, but not for like nalbinding and sprang weaving. Unfortunately, some needlecrafts are way too obscure to have their own dedicated community and survive. For example, just one of the popular knitting subreddits has 100 times the users of the only nalbinding subreddit. Translating that to Lemmy numbers, it could never make it here alone. If I had found another community for all needlecrafts, I definitely wouldn't have started c/bistitchual... Maybe it's just a bad name, too, should've been something more obvious.

Would nalbinding and sprang weaving be unwelcome on !lemmy_stitch@sh.itjust.works ? The name itself seems quite generic. I had a quick look earlier, the mods seem to have gone missing, so you might even request it to the SJW admins.
