The "city" (the political entity) didn't defy anything. This was private citizens using hand held lights. It's good to see, but it's not the local government telling him to go fuck himself as the headline suggests.

Members of Jacksonville's LGBTQ+ community and its supporters lit up the Acosta Bridge on Sunday with handheld lights. It came after DeSantis' Transportation Department told cities across the state last year that they could only light up bridges at night with red, white and blue lights.

Why not? That is usually the case. They're often bi or pan, but think that because they choose to be straight, that it's a choice for everyone else as well.

Why does the fact that this was done by individuals with flashlights diminish the message? This means that regular people organized themselves to display this message. That's arguably better than some city officials doing this.
