DeSantis was speaking on The Rubin Report on Wednesday when he said: "We also have a policy that if you're driving on one of those streets and a mob comes and surrounds your vehicle, and threatens you, you have a right to flee for your safety.

"And so if you drive off and you hit one of these people, that's their fault for impinging on you."

DeSantis' comments come ahead of the "No Kings" protests planned for June 14. Protest organizers have said the demonstrations are non-violent and are providing deescalation training to people taking part.

So by extension if I am peacefully protesting and somebody tries to hit me with a car/deadly weapon can I "Stand My Ground" and shoot at the driver? Asking for a friend.

You can run over ICE agents as long as you believe they are, in fact, protesters! It's fascist governor approved!

[–] CileTheSane@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

No ID saying they are ICE, so they very well could be protestors! You have no way of knowing and feel threatened...

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Also, aren't many of them wearing masks? "Hell, I thought they were antifa and BLM!"

Remember this when federal agents surround your car and demand you exit. Desantis just said you can run them over if you fear for your life and flee to safety.

"Officer you can't arrest me because that ICE agent you scraped out from under my bumper was protesting before I hit him"

Hey Ron if I ask to run you over with my car and you protest and say no, can I run you over with my car now?

I’ll be at the protest in Orlando. I hope to see some of you there.

Saturday, 5 to 7:30 PM, 400 S. Orange Ave., Orlando, FL

I mean, technically, DeSantis is a protester, he protests all types of shit

[–] j0ester@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago

If I knew this, I would have drove over a lot of J6ers.

What's the definition of threatens though?

[–] baronvonj@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago

Having empathy.

[–] Codilingus@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 weeks ago

I'd imagine it's just feeling threatened. If multiple people swarm your car and start physically hitting it, I'd argue they just fucked around and are fair game for finding out.

Sadly, my crystal ball tells me some old women is going to blow off the handle and run people over, claiming she felt threatened as an excuse.

Ron DeSantis has the right to be absolutely demolished by Disney and have his presidential bid collapse before his very eyes.

The RW freaks sure do have an obsession with being able to run over protestors.

Yes that makes the RW freaks very weird. They are weird about this just like they are about so many other things...

I didn't think the governor of Florida is talking to Californians

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemmy.world -1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Then he should stay out of the conversation.

[–] ExtantHuman@lemm.ee 0 points 2 weeks ago

He wasn't in that conversation. No one is having the conversation you're addressing.

[–] Bebopalouie@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago

I think in Florida, they have that stand your ground thing which does extend past your home? If so, you would be totally fine in shooting the idiot that’s behind the wheel of the car. Also, if magats were protesting, well, you could run them over too I guess.

[–] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

I'll have to remember that when Republican proud boys protest in Florida.

AAAAAAAAAND got dinged for that too. Pathetic. Won’t even state the rule broken. “Rule #” doesn’t mean anything.
