Holy crap... That is brutal.
I was in the middle of switching over to Lemmy. Honestly I'm really enjoying it so far.
I tried to use the official reddit app and it was horrible. So I'm trying out Lemmy. The look and feel on Lemmy mobile app (Jerboa) is so similar to Reddit is Fun.
I’m using wefwef.app and so far it’s like 90% of the way to an Apollo clone. Now we just need more users, communities, and content.
Tell all your friends! Wait, we’re all redditors. Shit…
Want to know what’s worse? According to The Verge, /u/iamthatis told them it was Reddit who pulled the plug earlier than planned.

ETA so far wefwef.app feels like a great Apollo clone. No push notifications on iOS (yet?) but I added it to my Home Screen and it’s great.

When this saga began, I didn't think I'd be struggling with such a sense of disconnect with the loss of an app of all things. However, I do feel that Christian's eulogy for Apollo helped, a gentle reminder to "smile because it happened". Here's to moving on.
I'll say here what I said there -
"This is like seeing someone steal the motorhome you've had tons of adventures and experiences in, and roll it over the edge of the Grand Canyon as you watch helplessly. It's not just the loss of your comfy, customized motorhome, it's all of the feelings and memories that are attached to it."
RIF is as well. Sad times and stuff but I'm happy to be here instead.

So at the moment my “workflow” is to completely stop accessing Reddit via mobile apps. I’ll still use Reddit via Google Searches because it remains important for finding key information.
I’m content playing with Lemmy as my main mobile “app”.

There’s so much community knowledge on reddit, it’s kinda painful to see everyone deleting all their historical comments and posts.

RIF just started returning error 429 as well. I sadly uninstalled it and then launched Jerboa instead.
I've had a ton of issues with Jerboa, but thus far Connect for Lemmy is working well!

Someone on Reddit said “years of muscle memory gone,” which hit me hard. Apollo was Reddit for me for years, so depressing watching this play out.
Just checked, and yep - it crashes whenever I try to open it. Honestly, it feels sort of surreal to think that this day ever came.
Rest In Peace, Apollo. You were my favorite social media app. You may rest now. 😔
