I got my Steam Deck two days ago, and I was seriously torn between it and the ROG Ally. What tipped the scales for me was the trackpads—and wow, I’m so glad I trusted that instinct! They work exactly how you'd hope, and then some.
I used to go back and forth between playing Stardew Valley on PC for the easy watering with mouse and on Switch for the portability. Now, I get the best of both worlds. The Deck's trackpads make the controls so much more versatile without giving up mobility.
Same with Minecraft. Using a controller is great for moving around and building, but managing the inventory is a nightmare. With the trackpads? It just works. Quick, smooth, and precise.
And it doesn’t stop there—point-and-click games, visual novels, anything where you’d normally need a mouse or touchscreen. I used to find it annoying to reach up and tap the screen, but with the trackpads, I barely need to. They’re that good.
If you're considering a handheld, the Steam Deck's trackpads made it the obvious choice for me. I honestly can’t imagine using a handheld without them now.
Do you have a moment when the trackpads "clicked" for you? I'd love to hear how others are using them!
