History Ruins

What is a ruin? We’re running off of “You know it when you see it” at the moment. Ruins should be non-functioning structures of some age, or their function reduced to tourism and the like.

Generally speaking, specific items from a ruin should go to !historyartifacts@lemmy.world

Illustrations of ruins (or their reconstructions) should go to !historyillustrations@lemmy.world

Photos of ruins back when they were functioning should go to !HistoryPorn@lemmy.world

One thing that's telling is the when western / European explorers found ancient ruins in Southeast Asia, they assumed other Europeans had to have built them. Racism does it again, folks!

I would like to recommend the Fall of Civilizations podcast. There isn't an ep about Vietnam (or their predecesors), but their is a good ep about the Khmer Empire (now Cambodia). It's a great show all around. Has a YouTube channel, too, if you're into that. I'm fine with just audio and like letting my imagination entertain me.

That building looks like it has lots of digital artifacts, and probably some analog artifacts too.
