And this was announced just 30 minutes after the Supreme Court issued an unsigned directive saying taco can deport any non-citizen wherever he wants without due process was this all just an orchestrated distraction?

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 22 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Did they even specify “non-citizen”?

[–] AngryRobot@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I believe the word they used was "migrant."

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 1 points 4 days ago

Which can easily be twisted to include citizens. You don’t have to be a non citizen to be a “migrant worker.” One might say that someone who moves to a new city is a “migrant.”

[–] MrVilliam@lemm.ee 18 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I hereby accuse Donald J Trump of being an illegal immigrant. As he is not afforded due process to prove that he is a legal citizen, I demand that he be deported to the prison in El Salvador since he's also a convicted felon.

What you're experiencing now is the difference between classes.

Seems that it was orchestrated by Netanyahu to sabotage the nuclear deal. Trump just got lucky I guess

[–] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 39 points 4 days ago (2 children)

I call bullshit until someone more reliable confirms it.

We've seen the way Israel does ceasefires and it looks an awful lot like Russian ceasefires. This is just Israel taking a timeout to restock ammunition and hoping for a good opportunity for a sneak attack. Also it's Trump saying it so who knows what if anything was actually agreed on. The only thing you can reliably count on Trump for is lies and grifting.

The only way I could see Israel going for an actual ceasefire is if Iran has nukes or one of their backers makes a believable threat to drop a nuke on their behalf. Or maybe Israel did the math on what it would mean if their psycho buddy Trump actually dropped that nuke he's been salivating about on Iran and don't want to deal with nuclear fallout and the very real possibility that someone would nuke them as a freebie while chucking nukes at the US.

What? Can't trust the president?

Who the hell can we trust then??

[–] ZoopZeZoop@lemmy.world 25 points 4 days ago

Trump does ceasefires like Michael Gary Scott does bankruptcy.

[–] skankhunt42@lemmy.ca 23 points 4 days ago (1 children)

starting in less than 24 hours, for 12 hours.

....

Unless there’s a Sharpie involved, then all bets are off.

[–] Hoohoo@fedia.io 15 points 4 days ago

From the guy who said he wouldn't bomb Iran and a few other things

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 12 points 4 days ago

"Trump says". He says a lot, and a lot if it is total bullshit. I believe it when I see it.

Your local FBI agent has seen that you have pressed (x). A swat team is in bound to your home…

So is this a 12 hour ceasefire? 24? Permanent (read: until the next time)?

And why does it start in 6 hours? Do the two sides get to just lob missiles at each other for the next 6 hours and then just say "gg" in a text to each other or something?

Whether Trump had anything to do with any agreed upon deal should also be taken with several grains of salt. Remember, he likes to take credit for things he had nothing to do with such as the ceasefire between India and Pakistan. This assumes there is even a tentative ceasefire in place, which itself I question given the source.

Or Iran could just be playing Trump for a fool. Let Trump think that he won because he's the bestest thing ever, and then while he's taking a victory lap, lob some bombs at Tel Aviv and make Trump look like a complete moron in the process.

Ceasefires have a warmup time to allow for troops out of contact to be contacted and notified before it starts, ideally to avoid anyone accidentally doing a warcrimes right after everyone was told to stop shooting.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago

And Israel and Iran simultaneously say: "We did what!?!?"

I'm using ground news links, is it OK?

can yall see it or you need a subscription?

if so I will just choose a source and send that link

[–] Levitator2478@lemmy.ca 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I like ground news but it's just AI generated summaries which can sometimes be inaccurate/misleading. I wouldn't use it as a primary source. Better to link one of the actual articles IMO.

[–] Anomalocaris@lemm.ee 5 points 4 days ago

honestly, it helps me stop doomscrolling.

as instead of doomscrolling to keep up, I just get the news, and if I there's something I need to see the coment section for some unholy reasons, I just post it here. but might be better to just pick a source and post that instead.

[–] skankhunt42@lemmy.ca 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Seems like this is the entire article?

Tap for spoiler

Trump says Iran and Israel agree to a ceasefire

  • President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire timeline aimed at ending the conflict between Israel and Iran, stating that Iran's missile attack resulted in no American casualties.
  • No American or Qatari casualties were reported in the missile attack, according to Trump.
  • Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates condemned the attack on the Al Udeid Air Base in strong terms.
  • Qatar confirmed that its air defenses intercepted several Iranian missiles, and no casualties occurred during the attack on the Al Udeid Air Base.

[–] IHawkMike@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

That just the summary aggregated from multiple sources. Below it you should be able to drill into the actual published articles.

[–] Substance_P@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

I use some privacy forward browsers and I can't close a cookie popup and the sign in to Google banner. Another browser just gave me a short overview with a ground news plug underneath.

[–] lupusblackfur@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

Evidently a reader is offered 5 articles/day for free...

Personally I'm not a fan but the reason i clicked on this post was to see if anyone else hates it or if it's just me lol.

I just don't like that it is ai aggregation taking traffic from other news sources. You're paying them instead of actual journalists. For me on a limited budget in not subscribed to anyone so i can't talk but if i were to subscribe, it wouldn't be to ground news.

(X) for doubt

[–] lupusblackfur@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Interesting...

This "CEASEFIRE" (sic) is specifically between Iran and Israel... No mention of US... So...

[–] Kowowow@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Man if trump wasn't even invited to the fight only for all of them to turn on him in the end would be kind of funny but only in a twilight zone kind of way

[–] Anomalocaris@lemm.ee 1 points 4 days ago

Israel-Iran alliance against the US.

unexpected twist

[–] dracs@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

I have been using Grounded on and off this last week. On the fence about this app. Worth the money?
