Yep. There's only one party in USA: the fascist party.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civil_religion

I'm sure kamalacaust will come out of the woodwork to stop this tho... \s

[–] burgerpocalyse@lemmy.world 3 points 3 hours ago

not left. not right. rigehft.

[–] Revan343@lemmy.ca 14 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

The USA is a one party state, except with typical American extravagance, they have ~~two~~ three of them

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 9 hours ago

uniparty its more or less a coalition of the oldguard and the old dnc, and maybe maga on some issues.

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 41 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

American politicians form third right-wing party.

[–] FriendFatale@leminal.space 4 points 15 hours ago

American politicians form third reich ~~right-wing party.~~

But mom says we already have conservative party at home

[–] ShaggySnacks@lemmy.myserv.one 1 points 37 minutes ago

We have two conservative parties at home!

[–] nek0d3r@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Even if some unholy combo of the right and the slightly less right us what we wanted, this is literally just plotting for the spoiler effect

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 hours ago

It looks like they're trying to capture "the center" - which side will be spoiled more?

[–] j0ester@lemmy.world 2 points 17 hours ago

Call it “MAGA? Nope!”

[–] evenglow@lemmy.world 222 points 1 day ago (4 children)

“The Republican Party, as many of us know it, no longer exists,” said one source, who asked not to be named. “We do not recognize ourselves anymore in Trump’s administration. There is a strong movement out there in the party to reclaim the values we were raised on and reclaim the middle ground.”

Translation: "Omg can you believe this leopard is eating my face? Now that I'm personally affected by my own stupidity I want to be friends with Democrats!"

[–] DancingBear@midwest.social 1 points 3 minutes ago

They literally have zero values…

[–] onslaught545@lemmy.zip 141 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (19 children)

This is a good thing. Don't mock people for realizing their party has abandoned them and acting accordingly.

Better late than never, but we need to support this ideal.

[–] GroundedGator@lemmy.world 3 points 2 hours ago

I'd have an easier time agreeing with you if any one of them had shown even a bit of spine against this fascism.

[–] Mustakrakish@lemmy.world 7 points 10 hours ago

Workers need to, not the politicians that made this happen.

[–] Brutticus@midwest.social 19 points 1 day ago

Nah fuck that. They did this. This isnt Trump vs Everybody. The camps are already up. they dont get come back feigning ignorance without even apologizing. They just want a pre 2015 status quo.

[–] SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 117 points 1 day ago (5 children)

and reclaim the middle ground.”

Bullshit it's good, it's a farce to make the "middle" somewhere between the right wing Democrats and the ultra right wing unhinged fascists of the Republicans.

None of them are going "Damn we shoulda listened to Sanders."

They've learned fuck-all.

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Think of it as creating a new non-MAGA Republican Party, including a few right wing Democrats.

Democrat party continues as before, minus a handful of Jim Manchins

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 5 points 3 hours ago

And Fettermans and Sinemas.

Ultimately, it would draw more disgruntled Republicans who don't like the MAGA takeover of their party, than Democrats.

And somehow, just somehow, his bills get passed.

[–] dmention7@midwest.social 20 points 1 day ago

They are concerned, but not concerned enough to risk losing reelection by going on record as being concerned.

The old school dems will team up with the majority of Rs and nothing will change. Anything to keep progressives from taking power.

[–] technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 41 minutes ago* (last edited 41 minutes ago)

The old school dems will team up with the majority of Rs

Already been happening for a long time.

nothing will change.

Already living under increasing fascism.

[–] MrMakabar@slrpnk.net 15 points 1 day ago

That would turn the Democrats into a progressive party, which would have nation wide positions, proper party infrastructure in every state and some funding systems. Given how few vote for third parties, that would be a huge win for progressives.

[–] Brokkr@lemmy.world 92 points 1 day ago (5 children)

A real simple fix would be ranked choice voting.

[–] Liz@midwest.social 2 points 10 hours ago

A voting system by itself will not unseat the two party system. You been proportional representation if you want lots of parties. I suggest Sequential Proportional Approval Voting](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sequential_proportional_approval_voting). Run a local referendums and work your way up.

[–] MetalMachine@feddit.nl 1 points 12 hours ago

Not entirely, but we should definitely have it

[–] TimewornTraveler@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

it's already been explicitly outlawed in several places.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 hour ago

Then we'll have to support it on a federal level too.

[–] RagingSnarkasm@lemmy.world 56 points 1 day ago (8 children)

fix

Which is why it won't happen.

[–] orbituary@lemmy.dbzer0.com 39 points 1 day ago (2 children)

After Mamdani, they're scared as fuck of ranked choice elections.

[–] teawrecks@sopuli.xyz 14 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

They already were. The right has been sneaking bans on ranked choice voting into many red state legislations for many years now.

You may be thinking "how could they convince people to vote against ranked choice voting?!" By piggybacking on xenophobia of course!

"Vote blue no matter who, but also we'll leave the party completely at the slightest hint you want to reduce income inequality and fix the broken social safety net."

Edit: Actually, good, fuck em. Why should the left need to start its own party. We're the Democrats now. Any Democratic official who leaves the party for this should be abandoned forever.
