I am very sorry to tell you that it's quite likely you came to sentience just so you could eventually be killed by one Arthur Dent.

I was at my wife's work holiday party last night.

They had a clever icebreaker bingo game with facts about the attendees. One person's was "survived three school shootings." I found her and got a bingo. The prize was a $10 doordash gift card.

Lame prize, great game idea. Terrible that this has happened to her but she's a bright and cheerful woman.

My wife and I met through Okcupid about fifteen years ago.

I had been in an insanely stupid long-distance relationship, called it off, and started looking for someone local.

The woman I broke things off with was younger than me and baby crazy, so I extended my age range by the same amount and met my wife quickly thereafter.

Specifically, we chatted for two or three weeks before I suggested we meet at a coffee place.

Two dates later we were exclusive.

She is seven years older than me and had never been in a serious relationship.

Just keep looking. Lonely people are absolutely everywhere, and you're bound to find someone you just link up with eventually.

I never put it together it was the same dude. Obvious though.

USPS has a way of combining smaller towns and suburbs to the largest nearby city. In practice this is very useful. You know your friend is near Nashville, say, and the zip codes do the heavy lifting.

So I would posit that using USPS as a source in this case is not a great idea.

From my experience, IBS is both about diet and anxiety.

Obviously not eating isn't going to help. You'll have to learn what foods set you off and limit or eliminate those from your diet. (For me it's raw onions and overly starchy foods.)

But I believe your condition is fueled more by your anxiety and depression.

I can't really help you there other than to say that controlled breathing exercises seem to be helping me. I often take cold showers when in an IBS attack that has verged into being a panic attack, but in that cold shower I realized I focus on my breathing.

My background is that I knew I had IBS but it was getting out of control. It turned out I had a hernia that was causing an occasional intestinal blockage. Once that was fixed, my IBS started to slowly improve.

It should've been massively better, but I had been training myself to be anxious each morning, worrying whether I'd be able to function at all.

I had to unlearn that worry... and it took a long time.

I dunno that I can give you advice on making friends. I am lucky to have a very good core support group of friends who have been with me through the last twenty-some years. We are all middle-aged dudes now, with our own complicated lives, but we still get together for board games, d&d, and chat on a discord all the time.

There was a time when we grew apart a bit. (We are stoners and one of our rowdier friends went to jail.)

I called a few together for a board game night, and it stuck. If I had not done that, we would almost certainly not still be in each other's lives.

So find some friends and keep them close. It is very hard to get through life alone, as you know. It takes hard work to make and maintain these relationships, but they are necessary.

Glad to help!

Also, funny Lynx story from a long time ago.

My dad loves this morbid story his parents read to him, The Hobyahs.

About twenty years ago, he got a dog, a weimaraner, and named her after the dog in that horrid story, Terpie.

I am on IRC and telling my friends about this dog and her morbid namesake, and find a site with Lynx (not the one I linked above, sadly) that had the story and shared it with my friends.

Apparently the link I found had a lot more to it... it was a woman in Texas making and selling concrete yard art.

I got my Dad a Hobyah for his birthday. It was perfect.

Is this it?

I googled 'Lithgow Trump poem' and was pretty sure it was from the New Yorker.

And finally, our eldest, Miles Morales, who didn't really wanna cooperate. The rest willingly hopped into the circle on a square, as most cats will.

And Abed Nadir!

And this is Troy Barnes.

Hey all, I'm that relative normie up in Duluth, Minnesota, who took in Keris a year and a half ago, and I need help finding a new and safer place for them to go.

First and foremost, this is not a plea for money, and if anyone has such offers they should go directly to Keris.

Bluntly, my wife is done with us having a houseguest, which is totally understandable, so I don't want to point fingers but make it understood that we aren't fishing for cash.

So on to Keris. They're non-binary, in their 30s, and mostly keep to themselves. I like hanging out with them, as nerds we get along. They're clean, quiet, considerate, and basically just need a safe place with their own room and preferably bathroom. Cat friendly is a massive plus.

I'm looking for ideas and offers of help. They do not have a job and do have some Minnesota state benefits, but not much money saved. I'll answer any other questions in comments or privately.

Personally, I think getting them out of the country is best, and would be able to get them to Canada if that's of any help. But stateside offers of help are also appreciated.

Basic recipe at: https://www.gimmesomeoven.com/no-knead-bread/

I now add a tablespoon of diastatic malt powder and knead it a fair bit for the 2-3 hour version.

Baked at 450F for 30 minutes top on, 5 off.

The browning on the bottom (in the comments) is not burning but delicious caramelization. The diastatic malt powder causes the crust to brown with sugars.

Will add a picture of crumb once it is fully cooled.

Best pizza I've made yet. Diastatic malt powder is a real game changer.

I was honestly curious if there was a link between the two terms, not a scientific one.

That said the number of participants in the study makes it a little questionable.

I'm a 50 year old dude, never cared about sports. But my wife got into PWHL last year and I started watching with her.

It doesn't have the toxicity that I've seen in so many male dominated sports. We're Minnesotans, so of course we support Frost.

Late last season we were watching a game and while the game was tied, our (Minnesota, not yet called Frost) team wasn't making as many shots on goals as they usually did, and I said that.

"What's going on? Why is Minnesota lagging in shots on goal... WHAT THE HELL HAVE YOU DONE TO ME, I'M MAKING OBSERVATIONS ABOUT SPORTS STATISTICS!!"

Left to right and actually sorted oldest to youngest we have:

Bernie Sanders is eight years old.

Miles Morales is just over four.

Abed Nadir & Troy Barnes are two and a quarter.

Maryjane is just over a year and is a foster fail. I'm the one that insisted on the failure. My dad adopted Mongo from the same litter.

Maryjane was supposed to be a Peter Parker but my wonderful professional vet tech wife was wrong this time.

Somehow everyone gets along in our house. 5 cats, 2 labradors, 1 tortoise, almost zero fights.

Hey all, I'm a cis ally in the upper Midwest of the USA. I offered a room to Keris a while back and she accepted.

She got here Wednesday night and things are going very well. She likes me, my wife, and our cats and one dog, and is learning to tolerate the other.

She has an attic bedroom that is her space alone.

She has time to unwind and figure out what she wants to do without fear of being dumped on the streets.

I just wanted to let you all know that we have taken her in and that she is safe and loved.

I've been a fan of They Might Be Giants for most of my life and have always been surprised that people universally disagree with me on this.

Linnell's songs tend to be quirkier but also shallower. (State Songs is a good example here - there isnt a song for every state and theyre often abstract to the point of meaninglessness. I expected such a project to have more inspiration behind it.

I've always found Flansburgh's more melodic and thoughtful, slightly better composed, and with a superior singing voice.

Of course they're a great duo and they play off each other's strengths. I don't dislike Linnell at all, just the songs that he sings tend to not be my favorites.

Said by one of my two DM friends to me while we were in a pizza joint together.

"Dude! Context! We are in public."

I have a bountiful life of riches. I run two games and play in three. Just a problem finding time for them all.
