good thing we have programs to "lawfully detain" and deport those nasty, awful, freeloading, terrorizing criminals, even to countries they don't have cultural/familial ties to.

Once this nightmare is over the US will no longer exist.
Do any intelligent people really think the world will continue improving ? I sure don't. Billionaires will destroy it.
Humanity is doomed. We evolved the ability and the motivation to cooperate, but with only a very narrow scope of "our people". We found that the best way to succeed was to manipulate, abuse, and kill anyone or any creature or any landscape outside of "our people" when the situation calls for it. The social order has not changed since 100,000 years ago, we just give the classes and the tribes new names. People are not evolved to understand a worldwide scale of society. So of course the first and best option when things get tough is to gather the spears, or these days, gather the guns and the bombs. It's remarkable we still have a world now that nuclear arms are available to any nation with the capital for it. But on the astronomical time scale we are still in the first moments following their development. I don't see how humanity makes it to "3,000 years after Christ" unless there is a tremendous worldwide shift in thinking.
The year is 2100. Decades have passed since the formation of the technations; corporate run countries in the place of where the US once stood.
To the west you have applestan and metadom; flanked on the right by both x-land and microsoftville. On the eastern side you have Amazonia, sharing a southern border with googleberg.
The actual populations of these countries is rather low; with most spare space instead used to build server farms for various artificial intelligence based weapons they use against one another.
All 6 send their mechanised armies inward, in a perpetual war for control of the Mojave desert; now uninhabitable due to the level of heat generated... It is the perfect location for thermal & solar based power generation; an ever increasingly hard resource to reliably acquire...
Don't stop. I was getting into it.
Nazi Germany had to be physically conquered by a powerful alliance of countries. That is not going to happen in the US. This nightmare isn't going to end on its own either, so the prospect your are fantasising about is unlikely to ever occur.
If Germany hadn't started a war that led to their defeat - or attempted to and a ceasefire is declared with minimal boundary changes, what would have happened with them longer term?
People did not change their mind even after the occupation. Their children and grandchildren did, but the original supporters of Hitler died thinking his greatest mistake was starting a war. Because it brought them personally a lot of hardship, not because of an ocean of suffering and a mountain of corpses.
[the germans who supported NSDAP] did not know before 1933 that Nazism was evil. They did not know between 1933 and 1945 that it was evil. And they do not know it now. None of them ever knew, or now knows, Nazism as we knew and know it; and they lived under it, served it, and, indeed, made it
They thought they were free, Milton Mayer
And even then there was no effective denazification. Top nazi scientists were hired by the US and the Sowjets and not enough were killed after the trials.
Naziism is alive in well in Germany.
But if all the top Nazi scientists are in the US and Russia, how are they still in Germany? It’s like these Nazi scientists must be everywhere by now.
Your problems go way beyond MAGA. You need a Denazification, a Denoeoliberalization a Deneoconversitivization, a Deimperialistization, a DeMICization, a Dezionistification, a Dewaronterrorization, a Devirtuesignalinsteadofactualpolicyization...
The entire narrative of what the US is and isn't needs to be reworked from the ground up, if you ever are to become a just nation striving for peace and cooperation in the world.
Well Timmy, the elves are very busy and Santa can only do so much.
Every single ones of those who enabled Trump to perform his autocratic rise in power for their own personal profit should be rounded up and charged accordingly for corruption and/or treason. They need to be made an example to any future wannabe dictator enablers.
For example: Whoever is running Trump's money laundering cryptocurrency scheme. There is no way Trump has any idea of how cryptocurrency works or even what it even really is. This is the same Trump who was confused by the screens in a Tesla car. It is obvious that someone approached him and sold it to him as a way to launder bribe money and is probably doing it for a percentage fee that is earning him millions. That person is knowingly enabling corruption at the highest level of the country.
There is an entire team of morally bankrupt assholes who are profiting off of enabling Trump's dictatorship.
As for healing the country's mental sanity as a whole, or should I even say connection with reality, it will at least require figuring out a way to get rid of Russia's hybrid warfare's social media influence with their troll farms spewing polarizing disinformation memes. It is no coincidence that most the anti-mask and anti-vax propaganda outlets suddenly pivoted to pro-Russia and anti-Ukraine propaganda as soon as the Russian invasion of Ukraine started. It is also no coincidence that a lot of the pro-Trump have suddenly turned pro-Russia as well. They are consuming their propaganda without knowing it.
Other than that, the US should REALLY invest in its education system. None of this would have gotten this bad had the people been better educated and informed. You have a terrifying amount of people who can barely spell their own names who trust some random sketchy article or meme they saw on the internet more than the words of educated professionals who spent decades studying the field in question.
Well, right now it seems to be going the other way around, as we begin to remove and rewrite American history to our liking -- largely exclud9ing slavery and the near genocide of the native American population, Jim Crow, Civil Right and much more.
Furthermore, we need to address why, as a democracy, we voted for an icon for racism, sexism and incompetence; and what that says about where we are at right now. However, we can't seem to agree on the color of shit once it is known that one is engaging with he opposite side. How can we hope to have such grand conversations when we can't even have the most elementary ones?
I think grand conversations are the problem. I heard a theory that whenever the social consciousness changes too much too fast there’s a breaking point where the more conservative people then reject everything. We moved the needle on social consciousness so fast in recent decades that now a lot of the work is being undone. Unfortunately, I think the most effective playbook to follow after this is in Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s strategy for expanding women’s rights through many small victories over a very long time.
That is unless the worst happens with the Civil War II and WW3 double whammy. Then all bets are off.
Conservatives litterally torn the country apart because they got told owning humans were a bad thing.
Moved the needle too fast??? We were barely even catching up with the rest of the civilized world.
Also RBG? You can thank her for where we are today.
Yeah it’s bullshit that certain people getting to live normal lives is controversial, and that we can’t just change that, but the left going “too far” is how conservatives feel. Trans people going from mentally ill to respectable and god forbid equal in less than 15 years blows their little minds. Have you talked to them? I have.
Yeah, fuck RGB for dying amiright. No one saw Trump coming, do you know how many seats in the rest of the courts Obama left open? Touch grass.
That's interesting. I think this country was built on massively shifting zeitgeist, from the revolution and all the things it has produced that seemed radical at the time like the declaration of independence and the constitution and its initial amendments; to the recent civil rights movement -- especially with movements like the Black Panthers. Major social zeitgeist shifts have been this countries bread and butter since its very origin.
All of which were met with heavy resistance. Also think about the time between the end of slavery and sharing water fountains. You still can’t say Black Lives Matter without an argument. Think about women’s rights. They got the right to vote after black men, and they still don’t have equal rights written into the constitution. Change happens slowly.
This distracts heavily from the fact that over the past 40 years the middle class was systematically eroded and people have much less economic security.
Turns out people are against "change" when all the change they experience is being fucked over.
Theres a reason FDR was wildly popular with the people. The great depression really fucked over people, but FDR policies gave the people a lot of new opportunities to pull themselves out of litterally slums while instilling labor rights and helped propelled the next generation into the largest economy booms of all time.
Last time they called it the Nuremberg trials, but sure, that works.
Denazification was a years long process of removing nazis from positions of cultural and political power and reversing the impacts of nazi propaganda on the German population (done by the occupying Allies). The Nuremberg trials by themselves were not enough for Germany to become a normal country again.
yes, we need it. no, it will never happen.
Not with that attitude, citizen 🤌🏼
The US will be divided up amongst the victors - probably Europe and China - sort of like east and west Germany.
From California: hey New York, your place or ours?
I mean, good luck making a landing on American soil in the first place. America is too big and too strong for the Germany ending to work; best you can do is probably a negotiated peace. Imagine if Japan had real industrial capacity. Sorry Americans but nobody's gonna save you from yourselves.
The US will tear itself apart. Nothing is impenetrable either. Difficult maybe, but the US alone couldn't withstand the world.
The US will tear itself apart.
This is plausible.
Difficult maybe, but the US alone couldn't withstand the world.
World? What world? Even in the best-case scenario for your main fronts you're looking at Canada, China, a few European countries (I certainly doubt AfD Germany would join), South Korea and Japan. Everyone else either has better problems, is pro-America or sincerely doesn't give a fuck. This is certainly an impressive force (though again this is an absolute best-case scenario of dubious likelihood), but not quite "launch a successful invasion on America" impressive.
The US is a failing empire that lacks any sense of unifying cultural identity. It's going to (or is actively) be torn apart from within and what's left will be a cold war front for what superpowers and allys exist. I don't see the west coast or north east wanting to participate in the fascist state, especially over the long run. In the fall of the union, powers with more direct reading routes will be more likely to find partnerships in what ever the reformed north America looks like. This isn't a prediction of invasion, but I also wouldn't take that off the table.
China knows this wouldn’t work. Even if they had the military power, nobody would put up with that. Because of racism mainly.
Canada otoh many of us might welcome as liberators. But they don’t have the military to do it.
https://plus.flux.community/p/americas-political-divide-is-psychological Mentions the problem is possibly a divide between rationalists and intuitionists.
