  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.

It's straight up too simple of an issue. Trump has only flexed how much power he holds since taking office. The entire government is bending to his will. The party ran on transparency and releasing these files was a cornerstone of it.

It's as cut and dry as it gets with no nuance or politics or trailing consequences to consider. Even a child could see through the lie. He'd probably have better luck saying the deep state is sabotaging it's release, but then he has to admit he's not in complete control.

That's quite a corner he's painted himself into.

misquote yet somehow still seems apropos

Good point, but I think there was probably a better narrative of, "We're trying to release what information we can, but it looks like the Biden/Democrats destroyed the evidence!" The thing is, Trump was never really the guy crafting these narratives. Q and Q influencers were. Telling people he was going to release the Epstien files and then telling people the Epstien files don't exist was his first attempt at making his own conspiracy narrative, and it did not go well.

He will make it go away. One month from now, it will be replaced with other, more pressing issues and his bases as well as the wider populace will just shrug it off. Nothing sticks to him.

I suspect he'll start an actual war to keep that in the news instead.
Possibly even doing something as stupid as invading Greenland or Canada, keeping Fox and his supporters fixated on the war instead.

I am hoping he puts boots on the ground in Ukraine as a distraction... I no he won't, but I can dream.

We're in a war of attrition with his cult. Every time something like this happens, a few of them reach the point where they can't stand the cognitive dissonance anymore and start coming out of the fugue he's kept them in.

I know a lot of them will shove everything they thought about Trump and the Epstein files down the memory hole. But a few won't. Hopefully enough.

He bobbed instead of weaved this time. All he had to do is say "I can't release it because uhhh the deep state". They'll forget. Most of them. They want to be ruled.

He will not release it. It will not be released. The only thing that is going to stop fascism is force.

[–] silence7@slrpnk.net 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The non-release is creating a pool of people who no longer trust Trump. That helps

[–] Taldan@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

What's stopping him from just releasing a redacted or incomplete version? Seems a relatively easy way out, unless every name on the list is someone very powerful

Oh

I was gonna say the Streisand effect but I guess brainwashing powers are something he has now?
