Community Rules

You must post before you leave

Be nice. Assume others have good intent (within reason).

Block or ignore posts, comments, and users that irritate you in some way rather than engaging. Report if they are actually breaking community rules.

Use content warnings and/or mark as NSFW when appropriate. Most posts with content warnings likely need to be marked NSFW.

Most 196 posts are memes, shitposts, cute images, or even just recent things that happened, etc. There is no real theme, but try to avoid posts that are very inflammatory, offensive, very low quality, or very "off topic".

Bigotry is not allowed, this includes (but is not limited to): Homophobia, Transphobia, Racism, Sexism, Abelism, Classism, or discrimination based on things like Ethnicity, Nationality, Language, or Religion.

Avoid shilling for corporations, posting advertisements, or promoting exploitation of workers.

Proselytization, support, or defense of authoritarianism is not welcome. This includes but is not limited to: imperialism, nationalism, genocide denial, ethnic or racial supremacy, fascism, Nazism, Marxism-Leninism, Maoism, etc.

Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

99% chance they were going with Ender, but there's that 1% chance they were going with Pigman and that's what I'll choose to believe

[–] thoughtfuldragon@lemmy.blahaj.zone 48 points 5 days ago (4 children)

There's also Allay, Wither, and Ghast

I know a Blaze, although it's spelled differently

[–] Jimbo@pawb.social 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Are they related to Guy Firey?

[–] sploosh@lemmy.world 17 points 5 days ago (1 children)

If you're the protagonist of a SNES JRPG.

[–] Zoomboingding@lemmy.world 20 points 5 days ago (1 children)

[–] Metostopholes@midwest.social 32 points 5 days ago (2 children)

There's a badass maths lady I met on Tumblr who named herself Tesseract. She definitely won at names.

[–] Hexarei@beehaw.org 11 points 4 days ago

I'm in awe at this one honestly, "Tess" and "Tessa" are great nicknames and then you can drop the "it's short for Tesseract" and blow minds. Absolutely fantastic name.

It's all fun and games until Thanos uses you as blingbling

[–] Iapetus@slrpnk.net 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I'm not sure what this means.

[–] IAmNorRealTakeYourMeds@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

fuck meant to type Thanos, fuck autocorrect

[–] Iapetus@slrpnk.net 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Yup. I still don't get it.

Is this what being old is like? Is ~35 old? I think I might be old.

[–] IAmNorRealTakeYourMeds@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (2 children)

The tessaract was one of the infinity stones Thanos was after in the MCU

[–] Iapetus@slrpnk.net 2 points 3 days ago

Thank you for putting up with my confusion and explaining!

[–] ArsonButCute@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Ehh kinda. The tessaract contained/was made of the Mind Stone, the thing that made Jarvis into Vision. The Mind Stone is what Thanos was after.

Thanos was after all the stone. that was the whole plot.

the tessaract had the space stone.

So many called Alex because it goes for men or women

[–] hungryphrog@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 3 days ago

Alex would be a great genderfluid name. Use Alex as default, then when you're a woman you could be Alexandra and Alexander when you're a man.

[–] paris@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 3 days ago

I feel like Allay would be a nice name

[–] hungprocess@lemmy.sdf.org 48 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

I misread that as Starcraft and was imagining "I go by 'Overmind, The Eternal Will Of The Swarm' now"

[–] thekidxp@sh.itjust.works 9 points 5 days ago (3 children)

I also read StarCraft and was trying to think of what names they could have picked

[–] emeralddawn45@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (2 children)

Kid named zergling: :(

Edit: unironically though, Archon is a kinda cool name

[–] seralth@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

There's a new guy where I work named Zerg. That's his legal name. Yes his parents gave him it.

[–] thekidxp@sh.itjust.works 6 points 5 days ago (3 children)

Honestly I could also go with Archon

Kid named fucking Mildred:

[–] hungryphrog@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Why'd someone name themselves or name their kid "Fucking Mildred"?

[–] Venus_Ziegenfalle@feddit.org 2 points 3 days ago

It's a reference to this post

[–] BreadOven@lemmy.world 8 points 5 days ago

The man-eater?

[–] LostXOR@fedia.io 29 points 5 days ago

Kid named Zombified Piglin:

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago (1 children)

There's a Minecraft mob called Luna?

[–] garbagebagel@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Name yourself after a Rowdyruff Boy because honestly, Brick, Boomer and Butch are the perfect fucking names. No notes.
