Easier said than done but try not to beat yourself up! Sometimes it literally just isn’t gonna happen, our brains are built differently :)
Me trying to figure out whether Boogiepop would be Bladesinger Wizard, Kensei Monk, or Hexblade Warlock, and also trying to make their build viable in a particularly difficult 5e campaign
The problem with all of these is that they can use whips (the closest thing to a microfilament wire in 5e) but there are massive shortcomings. Kensei monk and Hexblade warlock solve the damage issue with Path of the Kensei and Eldritch Smite respectively, but the whole point of a whip is reach so Kensei doesn't get full use of it, and there are much better invocations than Eldritch Smite and it doesn't even kick in until level 5.
Maybe they're just a fighter? I can see Boogiepop being a Battlemaster. Or maybe a Variant Human Ranger with Magic Initiate and Thorn Whip. But now I'm getting away from the original idea. The first thing I thought of was Bladesinger because they literally have a special state they enter when the other guy emerges. Perhaps a Bladesinger/fighter multi-class?
I mean I'm not playing as literally Touka Miyashita/Boogiepop, but this character is heavily inspired by them and I think whips are fuckin cool
